The Adagio Bed and Breakfast is a historical bed and breakfast that is located in the heart of Denver, Colorado. Guests are able to choose from six individually decorated rooms that each offer their own assortment of amenities. Gardens and a patio with a hot tub can also be found on the premises. On the property, guests can spend time at the Garagio, where guests are able to smoke Cannabis. According to the owner, the Garagio is one of the few places in the area where guests are able to smoke marijuana. Due to this, all guests who come on the property are required to be over the age of 21. The Adagio Bed and Breakfast is also capable of hosting small events, specifically events that have no more than 60 people in attendance.
The Adagio Bed and Breakfast is a three-story building, and it has six rooms in total that are available for patrons to rent. Each of the rooms is decorated individually to try and provide a different experience than the others. Regardless of which room a guest selects for their stay, they all include a private bathroom, access to Wi-Fi, and those who stay for the night will be able to attend the full complimentary breakfast. Guests will also have access to the hot tub, which can be found in the gardens in the backyard and the gardens themselves, and the patio. Certain rooms come with things and amenities that other rooms may or may not have. Some of these rooms may have hot tubs, where others do not. Another thing only found in some of the rooms is a fireplace. The owner recommends that guests scan through all of the available guest accommodations to see precisely what each room has and which one they would prefer.
Also found in the Adagio Bed and Breakfast is a living room with a grand piano and gas-lit fireplace. This space allows guests to relax and spend some time doing more leisurely activities like reading. There is also a dining area where breakfast is hosted that is able to seat up to 16 people at a time.
A full breakfast is served every morning at the Adagio Bed and Breakfast. On a typical morning, the owner, whose name is Helen, provides guests with a number of things, including a wide assortment of fruit and juice. Eggs and meat of some kind tend to be present as well as other breakfast dishes. The owner explains that she strives to create a meal that everyone can enjoy. Should guests have specific dietary restrictions that need to be taken into account, she will do her best to create dishes that can cater to their needs, provided she is given enough time to make them. Some of the dietary styles Helen can accommodate for those who require them are vegan, vegetarian, and kosher-based dishes.
Outside of the walls of the building, guests can spend time in the garden. In the backyard, there are a number of plants growing in the gardens, specifically herbs. Marigold, Petunia, and Coleus are just a few of the herbs and plants that are normally grown there. The patio offers a substantial view of the gardens, and guests can spend time soaking in the hot tub if they would like.
Beyond the property line, one will find the bustling city of Denver. Denver is a larger city that offers a wide variety of things to do. City Park is found not far to the north of Adagio Bed and Breakfast. There, visitors can spend time golfing at the City Park Golf Course, head to the Denver Zoo to see some exotic animals, or travel to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and learn about the history of the surrounding area. Cheesman Park is closer and is found south of the property, right next to Congress Park. Several restaurants that are located close to Adagio Bed and Breakfast include Pete's Kitchen, Lik's Ice Cream, and Blackjack Pizza and Salads.
The owner of the Adagio Bed and Breakfast, Helen, hopes that all of her guests will feel like they have been offered good hospitality and that they were comfortable throughout their entire stay. She claims that her guests have often felt that way naturally because of the city that the bed and breakfast resides in. In regards to the property itself, Helen says that "many guests commented on the fact that it's like an oasis in the city." This same sentiment is reflected in some of the reviews that past guests have left. One guest wrote, "such amazing hospitality and fun environment. I feel like we had everything we needed over our weekend visit to Denver. The courtyard is so cool, and we had extra space to hang inside and outside." Another guest said, "the property is within walking distance of some of the best attractions in town—very friendly and accommodating staff. Helen, the owner, goes the extra mile to provide a clean and warm environment for her guests." Helen also wants her guests staying with her to feel that they are in a quiet and peaceful environment. She claims that the atmosphere of her business and the surrounding area is a peaceful and quiet one. As a motto to the property, the word "adagio," found in the name of the bed and breakfast, means slow and leisurely. This name reflects the hopes the owner and the management have for their guests.
The property has a few unique policies that should be noted. One of these policies is perhaps very unique to this property: guests are allowed to smoke Cannabis in the Garagio if they would like to. Because of this policy, there is a minimum age requirement for the guests staying at the property, that age being 21. Helen also rezoned the property so that they could have a restaurant on-site and obtain a liquor license. They sell liquor on the property, and they have been known to give some complimentary drinks to their B&B patrons.
Small events are hosted on the property for those guests who would like to have a special activity with friends or family members over 21 years of age. The maximum amount of people that can participate in said events is 60 due to the relative size of the property. In the past, guests have had small weddings, receptions, and private dinners on the property, feeling that this location would be what they wanted to use. Guests who utilize this option are able to use the living room, dining room, and garden for the events.
The Adagio Bed and Breakfast is open all year round, with their busy season starting around March and ending around October. Many different types of guests tend to stay at the property, including young couples, older couples, singles, and others. Each room allows a maximum of two people. Those who visit the area are typically there because of the many concerts, sports, and museums that can be found in the area. Besides these things, those who stay at the Adagio Bed and Breakfast will find that they are only a few minutes away from two relatively large parks and the zoo. Guests in the past have also chosen to visit the botanical gardens that are close by as well.
The old mansion that the Adagio Bed and Breakfast resides in was built in the year 1892. It follows the pattern of many other Victorian style buildings with tall ceilings and relatively spacious rooms. The building was constructed by a famous architect named William Lang. The property has been used for many different things, first being a single-family residence for a prominent attorney in Denver. In the 70's it was then converted into a ten-unit apartment complex for people to use, and in the early 90's it was converted to offices. It wasn't until the year 1996 that the property was first used as a bed and breakfast.
According to Helen, who is the current owner of the lodging property, there used to be many mansions like the Adagio Bed and Breakfast in the heart of Denver. However, most of them have been torn down and converted to more modern buildings over the years. Because of this, the house of this bed and breakfast is a unique one to the city. Helen says that many guests feel as though they have gone back in time when entering the property.
Helen has owned the Adagio Bed and Breakfast for nearly twenty years now, first acquiring it in 2002. She entered the lodging industry because it was a lifelong dream of hers to do so. Furthermore, Helen loves meeting her new guests from around the world and learning about them. She also enjoys cooking for her guests and serving them as best as she can. While owning the property, Helen added the Cannabis policy, and she rezoned the property so that they could have a restaurant and acquire a liquor license.
