She is also a realtor in the area and has two horses of her own on the property.

About

The Bluegrass Country Estate is located in the rolling fields of horse farms and agricultural land outside LeGrande, Kentucky. The estate consists of a ranch-style home surrounded by green hills, a small forest with a creek, horseback riding, and foot trails. Hundreds of acres of open grazing pastures for horses surround the estate. In addition to the large home, there is a barn and extensive grazing pasture for the owner's horses and any the guests might bring to board while they stay at the bed and breakfast. White fencing borders the entire property, and a manicured landscape of shrubbery and flower gardens surround the home, barn, and pathways throughout the property. A sizeable horse statue is located in front of the house at the center of the wrap-around driveway.

Behind the home are a pool and hot tub with sun lounge chairs and multiple shaded tables. The front patio on the estate is also outfitted with tables and chairs looking out over the horse pasture and barn. The inside of the home is decorated in a traditional ranch style with rustic antiques and handcrafted wood furniture. Many windows cover all sides of the house, opening up the dining room, kitchen, and the two sunrooms on the main level. Cheryl, the owner and primary innkeeper of the property, lives on the main floor, and the rest of the guest rooms are upstairs or on the lower level of the estate. Downstairs there is a game room, gym, and theatre room, along with a large sitting area.

There are five rooms available to reserve at the Bluegrass Country Estate. Each room is uniquely themed after horse-related events and activities. The Ascot Room is named after the Ascot Racecourse in the United Kingdom. This room has décor inspired by an English cottage Cheryl lived in during a stay in England. On the second floor, on its own side of the house, the room has a private bathroom with a queen-sized bed. The Filly Room is named after the filly statue at the front of the estate. Containing views that look out over the front pasture, the room has a king-sized four-poster bed and an antique riding outfit on display. This room shares a bathroom with the adjoining Run for the Roses Room. Named after a famous Kentucky derby, the space displays artwork by Paul De Longpre, a French flower painter, and has a full-sized oak bed.

The Turf Room is a favorite of Cheryl's and one of the most commonly reserved rooms. The room is outfitted with its own small putting green, antique golfing equipment on display and a bookshelf filled with golfing books. A private patio looks out over the backyard, and a king-sized bed offer lounging space for guests. The Steeplechase Suite is the largest of the rooms and is often used by guests as a honeymoon or anniversary suite. This room has a wrap-around couch with an antique dresser and dark oak king-sized bed overlooking the horse barn and pool. A private bathroom and television are additional amenities in this luxury suite.

When guests are not in their rooms or out exploring the Kentucky countryside, there are various things to do on the Bluegrass Country's Estate property. During the summer, when the sun is out and temperatures are high, guests can take a dip in the large pool on the property. When it is cooler outside, the hot tub is commonplace to find guests relaxing after a day of horse riding or outdoor adventures. All of the sunrooms and sitting areas in the home have plush furniture, books, and magazines, which guests are able to use at their leisure. Downstairs there is a large game room with foosball, ping pong, and a large table for playing board and card games. The theatre room is filled with retro movie posters, and there are hundreds of movies available from which guests can choose.

A full gourmet breakfast is served in the dining room every morning. Breakfasts commonly consist of a main dish such as frittatas, stuffed pancakes, French toast, or an egg dish. Then fresh fruit, pastries, juices, coffee, and milk are also served. Guests are welcome to request certain dishes for breakfast, and those with specific dietary restrictions can give Cheryl a heads up to be accommodated. Those who bring horses to stay in the Bluegrass Country Estate horse barn can leave directions for their animals. The stable hands will feed and groom them as is necessary to give guests the ability to sleep in and go out into town without worrying about their animals.

Culture

As a member of the Oldham County Tourist Committee, Cheryl Sabin, the Bluegrass Country Estate owner, and innkeeper, wants every guest who passes through her bed and breakfast to have a "true Kentucky experience." Being located on a horse farm outside of the town gives guests an idea of what it's like to live in the area and be a part of the community. The inside of the estate has been decorated with antique furniture, rustic décor, horse-based artwork, and old derby photographs. All of these elements bring the feel of old Kentucky into the home.

Cheryl is a real estate agent in addition to running the Bluegrass Country Estate and has worked for many different agencies and corporations around the world. Because of this, she has lived a lot of her life in Europe, where she gained her love for horses and knew she wanted to settle down in Kentucky with horses one day. She often will share stories of her travels with guests, and lots of the décor in the home has been curated from the different places she has lived throughout her life. Many of her clients and guests will visit the Bluegrass Country Estate to get a feel for the area and decide themselves if they want to move to the area.

Guests are welcome to bring their own horses to the property to lodge in the horse barn during their stay. A network of forest trails and an open arena nearby can provide ample riding opportunities for guests. Cheryl keeps her own two horses on the property, as well as her dog Sammy who greets the guest with her, and a barn cat named Sassy, who is often seen roaming the property. Often Cheryl will take guests out on her own horse, leading them on her favorite trails in the area. As a member of the tourist committee, she is very familiar with the region and has many suggestions of activities guests can do or restaurants to visit.

No children are allowed at the estate to give adults who visit the ability to have a quiet, worry-free stay. Typically couples and groups of friends will reserve rooms at the bed and breakfast together. Small weddings, showers, and parties can be held on the property. Cheryl wants every guest who passes through the Bluegrass Country Estate's doors to feel comfortable and welcomed. She enjoys visiting with all of her guests and giving them a "breath of fresh air" at her Kentucky countryside retreat. The bed and breakfast is open year-round with an increase of guests during the spring and summer when the weather is warm, and the Kentucky Derby is taking place.

History

The Bluegrass Country Estate was initially planned to be a five thousand acre Arabian horse farm. Instead, a thoroughbred training center was established in its place. The estate is one of the only bed and breakfasts in the area that has a pool and other amenities such as a theatre and game rooms. The inn was opened by Cheryl Sabin in late 2007. Cheryl has an interior designing license and has spent the last few years adding Kentucky-inspired touches to the home and yard. With a passion for farming, and horses Kentucky was the perfect place for Cheryl to settle down.

Cheryl is also a broker and realtor for farms and multi-acre properties in Kentucky and spent many years of her life working around the world. She enjoys going to horse shows and races. As a member of the Oldham County Tourist Committee, she is very familiar with the area and its attractions. Cheryl has two horses Dakota and Sasha, who she keeps on the property in addition to her dog Sammy and barn cat Sassy. She enjoys spending time with her guests hearing their stories, and showing them the places she loves in the area.
