Other positive reviews of the property mention the service that they received during their stay. Julie Doerter, who owns the inn, makes it her personal priority to assist her guests in whatever capacity they may require. Should guests ask for a recommendation regarding what unit to stay in, she typically points them in the direction of the second-floor units. One specific guest who stayed at Brook Trout said, "Julie could not have been nicer and gave us lots of suggestions on places to see in the area. You can tell that a lot has gone into creating a welcoming atmosphere when you stay here." Another guest explained the property in the following manner: "Such a lovely little inn. The room was clean and comfortable, and the continental breakfast was great. The property was very pretty and well maintained. Super convenient to Highlands Shopping and Cashiers as well as hiking trails and waterfalls."

The owner of Brook Trout Inn—Julie Doerter—and her husband bought the property in 2015 and did a fair amount of work to remodel it. In June of 2016, they were ready to open the inn to the public formally. They have made various changes to the property, one of which being the main building that now has three family suites to accommodate larger groups. Julie and her husband never thought they would be running an inn at this point in their lives, but the opportunity presented itself, and they decided to go for it.

Julie was a school teacher for many years prior to owning Brook Trout, and her husband worked in construction. When they first purchased the property, they considered it to be in "bad shape," and thus, work was needed to bring the buildings to the quality that they have today.
