The Eagle’s View Bed and Breakfast is located on a hill in the city of Pierre, South Dakota. It has a total of five guest rooms available for reservation, each featuring amenities such as ensuite bathrooms, TVs, microwaves, and refrigerators. Most of the suites are located on the second floor, with one suite located on the garden level. There are a number of common areas throughout the house, including the upstairs sitting areas, the dining room where breakfast is served each morning, and the enclosed deck with tables and chairs set up should guests wish to congregate there. One of the most notable aspects of the property is that its location on top of a hill provides panoramic views of the surrounding region. Linda, the owner of the bed and breakfast, says that the inn was built on top of the hill specifically for those views.
Situated on top of a hill in Fort Pierre, South Dakota is the Eagle’s View Bed and Breakfast. The three-story building has a total of five guest rooms available for guest reservation, with four on the second floor and one on the garden level. Each room offers patrons ensuite bathrooms, hair dryers, a TV, a microwave, and a fridge. Some of the differences between each suite are the name and theme of the room as well as the size of the bed. For example, the Garden Room features two twin beds and a light blue and white color palette, whereas the Granite Room offers a king-size bed with the decorations all being different shades of grey.
Other areas inside the house which guests can access include two sitting areas on the second floor with couches and a television. On the first floor, people can congregate in the dining room, kitchen area, sunroom, and great room. There is an enclosed deck with six tables that can seat 24 people at any given time, according to the owner. The deck has a view of the Missouri River and the surrounding region. Linda, the owner of the inn, says that the property was named the Eagle’s View Bed and Breakfast because of its location on top of a hill that provides panoramic views of the Pierre area.
Linda makes breakfast for her patrons each morning between 8:00 and 9:00 AM; however, accommodations for other times can be arranged. The meal is served each morning in the dining room, and the menu for breakfast varies between sweet and savory dishes. With that being said, every dish comes with fruit served on the side. Some of the dishes that are offered include cinnamon rolls, coffee cakes, and made-to-order eggs with a type of breakfast meat such as bacon or sausage. Those with dietary restrictions or allergies can notify Linda ahead of time so she can adapt the menu to their needs.
There are a number of nearby attractions to the Eagle’s View Bed and Breakfast that are popular with guests of the inn. One such attraction is the South Dakota State Capitol across the river in Pierre, where visitors can walk the grounds and tour the inside of the building. Pierre is also home to various museums and other similar facilities, such as the South Dakota National Guard Museum and the South Dakota Discovery Center. For those looking for activities to do outside, there are over 50 miles of walking trails throughout the city of Pierre, according to Linda, the owner of the bed and breakfast. Along some of these paths, public parks can be found, including Steamboat Park along the Missouri River or Griffin Park, which contains a portion of the Lewis and Clark Trail. Linda recommends to people who are looking for restaurants to try RedRosa Italian Grille, Drifters Bar and Grille, and La Minestra, to name a few.
One of the aspects of the Eagle’s View Bed and Breakfast for which it is most known is the panoramic view of the city of Pierre and its surroundings. Linda says that because of the home’s location on top of a hill, the bed and breakfast is quiet most of the time for guests. Linda strives to keep the house as “a gem, a place that [guests] haven’t heard of but they’re glad they came” to stay. In order to provide guests with that opportunity, there are a few policies that Linda advises guests to follow over the course of their stay. One of these policies is that children under the age of 12 are not allowed to stay at the inn unless the entire building has been reserved for an event. Additionally, pets are not allowed to stay with patrons at the property, and smoking is prohibited near the property. Linda says that she lives by the policy of “treating people the way you want to be treated,” and, as such, strives to assist her guests in whatever way she can. She says that the inn is “supposed to feel like home” for her guests. Reviews of the property mention this feeling along with appreciating Linda’s hospitality, saying the property “had a wonderful view of the Pierre/Ft. Pierre area from atop the hillside.” They further recount their experience, saying that “Linda was an excellent hostess and an excellent breakfast cook.”
The Eagle’s View Bed and Breakfast was built in October of 2002. According to Linda, the original and current owner of the property, the house was built for the view, which is one of the more unique aspects of the property, and with the intention of being a bed and breakfast. She had formerly been a teacher and decided that she wanted a change in her career. She decided to build the bed and breakfast with her family so that they would continue to have the opportunity to meet new people.
Fort Pierre, South Dakota, is named after Pierre LaFonte, the principal founder of the city in the early 1800s. The town served as the first fur trading post for the state of South Dakota. It is also near the place where Lewis and Clark first encountered a tribe of Native Americans on their expedition to the Pacific Ocean. Lewis and Clark’s journey through the area is commemorated by the Lewis and Clark Trail that runs through the city along the Missouri River.
