East Shore Lodging is located in downtown Hawley just a few yards from the shoreline of Lake Wallenpaupack. The lake is the second-largest in Pennsylvania and draws residents from all across the state during the summer months. The boutique motel was originally a small shopping area with multiple shops lining its L-shaped, two-story building. A large parking lot is located at the property center, with room for extra vehicles, trailers, and boats to park. The motel is painted white with a boardwalk-style patio wrapping along the entire outside of the building with stair and ramp access. There are boat slips and dock services available to rent through East Shore Lodging. Two of the docks are short-term for guests wishing to have a space for their boat of the weekend, but fifty long-term slips are also available. These boat slips are available to anyone in the area.
Each of the twelve rooms at East Shore Lodging have private entrances and restrooms. The rooms were are previously stores and boutiques, so they are large with a seating area and space for storing equipment. The rooms range from 400 to 700 square feet with double and single bed options. Sitting areas equipped with a couch, lounge chair, coffee table, and small dining arrangement fill each room in addition to the bed and nightstand tables. All of the rooms at East Shore Lodging are decorated differently with traditional or modern influence. In addition to a full bath and linens, other amenities are offered with each room, including a flat-screen television, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron, and private access to the heating and air conditioning in each room. Queen Room number four is the most popular rental at East Shore Lodging, as it has a hand-crafted wood bed made out of logs in the area.
A small gift shop is located in the main office of the property and sells many trinkets. Some of their merchandise includes shirts, mugs, sweatshirts, ornaments, and magnets. Most of these are inspired by Lake Wallenpaupack. Just a few steps away from the motel is a small ice cream shop, boat maintenance store, and a Lake Wallenpaupack themed boutique. Popular on-land activities in the area include the Soaring Eagle Rail Tours, Casa's Family Fun Park, and hiking Bushkill Falls. Claws and Paws is a small zoo in Hawley, and a walking trail winds around half of Lake Wallenpaupack, where guests can ride bikes, go running or walk. Many restaurants are located in the area. Some local favorites include Dock on Wallenpaupack, Boathouse Restaurant, and Groschens Chaka.
Lake Wallenpaupack, however, is the main attraction to the area. From East Shore Lodging, guests can rent boats, kayaks, and paddleboards to take out for a few hours or multiple days on the lake. Some fishing equipment is also available to rent as fishing is one of the most popular activities to take part in on the lake. During the winter ice fishing, and skiing at the Big Bear Ski Resort are go-to activities.
"East Shore Lodging was purchased and renovated with the intent of creating a private, comfortable place for guests to stay in close proximity to Lake Wallenpaupack," says the general manager of the property. Previously each room was a boutique, but their transformation was inspired by the owner Steve Gelderman. Steve hoped to create a comfortable, private space where guests can come and go as they please with access to all of the modern amenities offered at expensive hotels. There are eight staff members at East Shore Lodging; each staff member walks the decks in the mornings and afternoon to visit with guests and make sure they have everything they need. Daily housekeeping is offered, and fresh linens are replaced in each room. The general manager personally greets each guest and makes sure they have everything they need to begin their stay before giving them space to adventure as they please.
Each room at East Shore Lodging was completely renovated, and features reclaimed furniture and other inspired décor pieces. The natural wood and diverse color pallets in each room make each room warm and inviting. Specific policies such as no smoking or pets in the rooms are crucial to keeping each room clean and easy to maintain. Each room is equipped with everyday necessities in an effort to keep every guest at ease with little need to leave their rooms except to visit local attractions. Each room is large with space for not only luggage but additional equipment guests may need to keep. Private entrances lead to each room in order to give guests peace of mind when entering and exiting their room at any time. A large parking lot is located at the center of the L-shaped property. Here guests can park their vehicles, trailers, and boats with room to spare. The property's marina is another of the added amenities that can add convenience to visitor's stay, so they don't have to go in search of a dock or ramp to board their boats.
Guests often leave positive reviews regarding the property's large rooms, proximity to the lake, and access to rentals and tours from the motel. Most of the visitors at the motel find out about the lodging options after scheduling a boat tour through the motel. A guest at the East Shore Lodging said, "The motel was great. The room was very big, clean and updated with nice amenities in the room. It was directly across the lake and within walking distance to a good restaurant. The room had a nice front porch to relax in the evening, with view of the lake."

East Shore Lodging was previously owned by Bridget's parents. They passed it on to Bridget and her husband Steve Gelderman in 2016, who now serve as the primary owners of East Shore Lodging. Bridget's father visited a motel near Hawley that had similar function and amenities as East Shore Lodging. He was inspired by his stay at this motel and made the decision to start his own boutique-style motel. He purchased the L-shaped building that used to be filled with shops.
He built a new building for the shops down the road and started the process of renovation. Each room received new flooring, paint, and furnishings. Because each room was previously a store, they are large, and each has private entrances and bathrooms. The motel was opened in 1990. Over the coming years, the boat, kayak, and paddleboard rentals were added for the convenience of customers, and the dock and boat ramp were also included with each visitor's stay. Each staff member at East Shore Lodging is explicitly chosen for their skills in housekeeping, hospitality, and knowledge of the area.
