Ethridge Farm Bed and Breakfast has been in operation since 2003. Three cabins were built on the property, each of which has a country-style theme with similar amenities provided within. Breakfast is complimentary to guests, and any dietary restrictions that visitors may have can be addressed and accounted for in the preparation. Additionally, the owner provides dinner for an extra fee. Ann, the owner, seeks to provide a relaxing and comfortable experience for her guests and encourages her patrons to enjoy the outdoors. The home sits on thirty-five acres of land, and nearly twelve of the acres are being developed and maintained. A fishing pond, an old-fashioned country barn, and an orchard are located on the acreage. Events such as weddings and reunions can be hosted on the property, with the lodge having a gathering gazebo that can host around seventy-five people.
Ethridge Farm Bed and Breakfast is located in Kountze, Texas. There are three cabins on the property by the names of Cabin on Mayhaw Ridge, Cabin on Blueberry Hill, and Cabin on Deer Run. Each of the cabins on the property comes with amenities including air conditioning and heating, a ceiling fan, private bathrooms, a king bed, and kitchenettes. Different amenities such as a kitchen table and twin beds are available in some of the cabins. Wooden walls and country-style decor is featured in each of the homes, and the owner of the cabins says that the style of each of the cabins is intended to be "antique country."
On the property and outside of the cabins, guests can use the Log Cabin Lodge to gather, talk with the owner, and eat breakfast. Inside the lodge, there are three different areas available to guests, the sun room, the formal dining room, and the common room. The sun room, in particular, has tables and chairs that can seat around eleven people. In the common room, there is a couch and a stone fireplace. Lastly, the formal dining room has a table that can seat around ten people, and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Attached to the back part of the lodge outside, there is a deck pavilion, which can seat around 75 people. Outside at the front of the bed and breakfast, the lodge has a porch with rockers and a swing.
Breakfast is complimentary with the stay of each patron and is served in the Formal Dining Room or the Sun Room. The options that are served for breakfast vary from day to day and are chosen by the owner of the Ethridge Farm Bed and Breakfast. Generally, visitors may expect to be served meals such as biscuits and gravy or a farm casserole that has eggs, sausage, and cheese. Accommodations can be made for guests who have food allergies and restrictions; however, the innkeeper must be informed about such dietary needs so that she can have enough time to acquire the proper ingredients.
Dinner is also served in the Log Cabin Lodge. Generally, dinner meals include beef, fish, pork, or chicken. While dinner may be served in the same location as breakfast, it is not complimentary and requires an additional fee. Food allergies are also taken into account when dinner is served to people.
Ethridge Farm Bed and Breakfast is situated on thirty-five acres, twelve of which are being developed. During their visit to the property, patrons are encouraged to explore the grounds. On the official website of the bed and breakfast, it states that a “Historic 100-year-old authentic East Texas barn” is located on the grounds. Additionally on the acreage is an orchard with different kinds of fruits being grown. Some of the plants growing seasonally in the orchard are pears, blueberries, figs, and persimmons. A creek is located near the cabins and lodge, and the property has a designated trail to reach the creek. A "sweet heart tree," as the owner calls it, is also located on the grounds, and guests may carve their names into the tree.
The owner, Ann, seeks to provide visitors with a relaxing experience that is both "comfortable and peaceful." One of the things that Ann has enjoyed about her job is being able to visit and talk to her patrons. A previous guest who stayed at the bed and breakfast said that "the grounds were beautiful with lots of fruit trees and a well-maintained garden. The property is attached to a thicket forest with lots of wildlife. The grounds of the property were well maintained and looked great.” Another guest said, “the home is a peaceful, beautiful, and tranquil country getaway. The owner will welcome you with a country-style warmth. On the property, there are beautiful rustic cabins, and cooks that make a delicious country breakfast, and the hospitality and history of the bed and breakfast are great.”
Ann is the owner of the Ethridge Farm Bed and Breakfast, and she has a few policies that she would like guests to follow during their stay. Some of those policies are that pets are allowed on the property with their owners, however, there is an extra cost per day. Additionally, the owner does not allow smoking in the cabins. Children are permitted to stay at the bed and breakfast, and guests can reserve a cabin for up to four people. Furthermore, the rates are set for two people, and the accompaniment of more people will increase the rate by fifteen dollars per person.
Ethridge Farm Bed and Breakfast is able to host birthday parties, weddings, family reunions, and other events. Seasons of operation for the business are year-round, and the owner notes that spring and summer are typically the busiest times of the year.
Different attractions and activities are available to guests outside of the property. Such attractions include but are not limited to visiting the Big Thicket National Reserve, where visitors can engage in hiking and other nature activities, traveling to the city of Beaumont, which features twenty-seven museums, and visiting Shangrila gardens in Orange Texas. Some restaurants that Ann would recommend are Mama Jacks for their country-style buffet, Sweet Cheeks for their baked goods and dinners, and Catfish Cabin, which serves a variety of seafood.
Ethridge Farm Bed and Breakfast has been in business since 2003 under the ownership of Ann for the entirety of that time. She became interested in having her own bed and breakfast after one of her family members became an owner of a bed and breakfast. She wanted to give it a try, and she said that “it seemed like a fun thing to do.”
Originally, the acreage solely had the Log Cabin Lodge, and Ann used it as her vacation home. During her years of owning the establishment and converting it into a bed and breakfast, the other cabins on the property were built, and other amenities were added. Ann currently has no future plans for additional cabins to be constructed.
