Goose Pond Inn

The Goose Pond Inn, located on Main Street in North Creek, New York, is a small property that is said to have a distinct personality. The inn is built next to the Goose Pond—the namesake of the inn. Goose Pond is a public pond and a popular attraction to the guests of the Goose Pond Inn. Sometime during their stay, many visitors may find themselves enjoying walks along the water's edge or kayaking on the pond. The town of North Creek is known for Gore Mountain, a famous tourist spot both in the summer and winter. Dakota, who owns the Goose Pond Inn, wanted to be close to a place where she could ski in the winter and hike in the summer. Her love for these activities is something she finds in common with an abundance of her guests, many of which come to the area to participate in the various recreational activities nearby.

About

The Goose Pond Inn, named after the pond that is right to the inn, is tucked into the trees just off the beaten path in North Creek, New York. Goose Pond is on public land, allowing anyone who wants to enjoy the pond. However, the inn owns the rights to the dock located on the right side of the pond.

There are four guest bedrooms at Goose Pond Inn, each decorated in a different color. The Cascade room has recently been renovated. Its interior is decorated in light browns and white accents, and it comes complete with a king-sized bed. In the Pinebrook Glades room, guests will find a living space decorated in soft greys and whites. It can accommodate up to four guests as it has a queen-sized bed and a bunk bed with two twin beds. The Powder Pass room is decorated in bright blues and greens. This room has one queen-sized bed and one twin bed. Lastly, the Sleeping Bear room is decorated in light blues and browns and can sleep two guests on its queen-sized bed. Each room has an en-suite bathroom, and a Roku T.V. There is also a hot tub on the property that guests can enjoy after a long, adventure-filled day.

Each morning, there are eight options for guests to choose from for a hearty breakfast. These eight options include french toast, Nutella stuffed pancakes, apple cider pancakes, blueberry pancakes, an omelet, eggs--over easy or scrambled, a breakfast sandwich, or a parfait. Additionally, each breakfast entrée comes with a side of hashbrowns and sausage or ham.

In the nearby area, there are many outdoor activities that visitors of Goose Pond Inn can enjoy. All within a ten-minute drive, guests can be at the river white water rafting, at the ski resort "shredding the gnar," or enjoying a scenic ride along the Hudson River on the Revolution Rail Bikes. They also, of course, can spend time at the namesake of the inn, the Goose Pond.

Culture

Dakota, the Goose Pond Inn owner, hopes each guest will feel welcomed and appreciated while staying with them. She wants the Goose Pond Inn to be a place where guests can come to relax after a long day of playing in the great outdoors. Most guests that stay at the Goose Pond Inn generally come to enjoy the recreation in the surrounding area. At North Creek, many of the activities guests come to enjoy are physically challenging, and often they just want to relax after a long day on the slopes, the water, or the hiking trails nearby. The Goose Pond Inn acts as a waypoint and a place of rest so that guests can rejuvenate from one day of adventures to another.

One guest commented on how their stay at the inn didn't quite feel real when they said, "The Inn itself was lovely. It was like something out of a movie, in the mountains, beautiful scenery, quaint Inn/home." Another guest commented on how comfortable they felt at the inn when they said, "Charming bed and breakfast with many rooms recently renovated, lovely hosts and excellent breakfast."

Dakota wants to make sure every guest feels welcome at the Goose Pond Inn. One of the ways they try to do this is by being a pet-friendly B&B. Dogs are welcome at the Goose Pond Inn. There is a one-time cleaning fee of $40 for anyone staying with a dog.

The small hamlet of North Creek is a very small town with just over 500 year-round residents. Some guests have commented that though it is a small town, there is still much to do. Most of what goes on in North Creek is centered around the tourism and outdoor recreation in the surrounding area. Some of the more notable places in town are the town hall and the school—which has every grade k-12 attending the same school.

History

The Goose Pond Inn was established as a bed and breakfast inn in 1987. In the early 90s, Gore Mountain was changing out the gondolas that were being used on the ski lift. One of the gondolas was donated to the Goose Pond Inn as a decoration and now sits in the Goose Pond Inn's front yard.

Jim and Beverly were the original owners of the bed and breakfast, but in 2019 they decided they wanted to be fully retired, and they sold the inn to Dakota Reed. Dakota has enjoyed running the inn because it is near one of her favorite childhood stomping grounds, Gore Mountain. Gore Mountain has always been a favorite place for Dakota and her family to ski in the winter and hike in the summer.

Dakota was looking to get into the lodging business, but she wanted a close enough place where she could spend part of her winters skiing. When Jim and Beverly were looking to sell in 2019, it seemed like the golden opportunity that Dakota was looking for. She talks about how she enjoys helping guests find activities that fit what they want to do. Additionally, Dakota has many plans to update the inn and encourage guests to return again and again.
