About

The Gregory House Country Inn sits on an acre of land in Averill Park, New York. The property has twelve guest accommodations available for its patrons. Each of these rooms are themed differently, ranging from a cabin theme to an Italian theme. The rooms offer either a king-sized bed or a queen, depending on which room the consumer stays in. A private bathroom is located in each space, with cable television and individually controlled air conditioning.

A unique thing about the inn is that a restaurant is attached to it, titled La Perla, which serves authentic Italian dishes. La Perla was voted "Best New Restaurant in the Capital District" in 2001 and is ran by Chef Alfonso Acampora, who is also a part-owner of the inn with his wife, Anna Maria. Five dining rooms are located in the restaurant, with the fifth room providing a wood-fire oven. It gives off a "lodge-like feel," as stated by the property. A full bar and wine list are provided with the dining experience, allowing consumers to utilize these services with their meals. Menu items include rigatoni, fettucini, ravioli, and more. This restaurant is open in the evenings for guests to access their dinner needs. The Gregory House County Inn serves a buffet-style breakfast for their guests to go along with their dining experience, served in the morning between the hours of 9:00 and 10:30 AM.

The area of Averill Park is a 45-minute drive from Saratoga Springs, a city known for its horseracing. Here guests can go to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the summer house for the New York City Ballet, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Tanglewood, the summer house for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is located nearby as well. Hollywood Drive-In Theatre is located in Averill Park and is a 400 car drive-in theatre that was built in 1952, still operating in the present day. At this drive-in, guests can experience "the old American pastime," as stated by the Hollywood Drive-In Theatre's website. Foods such as pizza, nachos, and other movie treats can be found at the theater.

Culture

The culture at Gregory House Country Inn is described as "rustic" by part-owner Anna Maria Acampora. The hosts strive for a welcoming culture by providing multiple culture-themed rooms for their guests. Guests of the property often mention the owners in reviews, stating that they are "very accommodating." La Perla, the restaurant located at the Gregory House Country Inn, is also reviewed, with mentions of the "very professional staff who provide luxurious dishes for their consumers."

The city of Averill Park is known for its watermills, dating back to the 1880s. The area—first titled Sand Lake— was renamed after the Averill family, after a leading local family. It was later changed to Averill Park in attempts to promote a local summer-resort development. The Averill family played a significant role in the local community, with the first being William Franklin Averill. William was heavily involved in the local government, serving as the Town Clerk, later on as the Supervisor of the Town, and as a Justice of the Peace. His brother, James Gill Averill, is known for leading a Memorial Day parade on his horse "Moscow," a civil warhorse that is buried with him today.

The family's history is enriched with other historical figures, which led the area to name it after them. Faith Mills, a knitting company, was formed in 1897, providing clothing for consumers in nearby areas. The mill stayed in production until 1962, closing down due to the decrease in demand for wool undergarments. The mill was one of three U.S. remaining manufacturers for wool undergarments at the time of its closing.
