One of the reportedly most notable attractions near the bed and breakfast is Lanikai Beach, which was featured by Sunset Magazine as a “top-ten beach destination.” The owners hope that guests staying at the property will “have fun and feel at home” during their stay in the area.

Located in a residential neighborhood close to the town of Kailua, on the island of O’ahu, Hawaii’s Hidden Hideaway is close to the town and has easy access to the beach and other areas on the island, according to the owners. The property is a bed and breakfast with private accommodations. Each unit is decorated individually. Within the units, one can find a dining area and kitchenette stocked with a microwave, fridge, blender, toaster, tea kettle, hot plate, and coffee maker with fresh coffee bean coffee grinder. Another notable amenity is the outdoor lanai, or patio, each unit has access to, which overlooks the property’s gardens. The suite additionally has a private outdoor spa.

Those interested in learning more about the local flora and fauna can read about it from various books that are available in the rooms of the bed and breakfast. Tourists can also walk to Lanikai beach, which is a couple of blocks away from the property. Slightly further away, people can visit Kailua Beach. For patrons interested in hiking, a trail located behind the bed and breakfast is known as the Pillbox Hike. On a clear day from the hike, visitors can see the islands of Molokai and Lanai, as well as other views of the island of Oahu, according to the owners.

Other popular attractions in the area include the Boydo-In Japanese Temple, which was transported from Japan and reconstructed on O’ahu. Visitors can walk the grounds and can enjoy the native Japanese architecture. When asked about what restaurant guests should try during their stay, the owner remarked that the area contains “every kind of restaurant that you would want.” They refer specifically to a large variety of international restaurants, ranging from Japanese, Korean, and Chinese food to Italian and Mediterranean restaurants, a local steak house, and the only Moroccan restaurant in Hawaii. There is a book in each unit that has a list of restaurants and many of the menus for them. Although menus change, the book can give an idea of what each restaurant offers.

The owners hope that, during a stay at the bed and breakfast, guests can feel “comfortable and at home.” They strive to provide everything that those staying there may need. A majority of patrons that the bed and breakfast hosts are couples staying there for their honeymoon; anniversaries; special birthday celebrations; and even babymoons, a last getaway for a couple before a new baby is born. Other guests of the establishment include business travelers who prefer to stay in a relatively quieter area of the island, as opposed to the resort areas. The owner notes that about 35% of travelers are international. While they respect the privacy of their occupants, the owners enjoy being able to meet the people who come to stay at Hawaii’s Hidden Hideaway. Many reviews of the property mention the hospitality of the host, with one saying she was “such a great host, so helpful about sharing where to go and what to see.” Other reviews mention the quality of the suites they stayed in. A former guest also said, “It was amazing watching the stars from our private lanai.”

In an attempt to create a fun and comfortable ambiance, there are certain policies set up for patrons to follow. Some of the most notable policies include no smoking anywhere on the property and observing the established quiet time from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Additionally, families can bring their children to stay with them. However, no pets are allowed on the premises. Typically, the business is busiest around most holidays. “You name the holiday, and we’re busy,” one of the owners said. Some of the most popular holidays for guests include the Fourth of July, Spring Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. The owners recommend that if guests are looking to stay at the property during one of these holidays, they book their reservation early. 

History

The Bed and breakfast was established in 1989. It became Hawaii’s Hidden Hideaway in 1997. With regards to renovations made to the property, the owner says that “we just about redid everything.” Most of their current efforts are focused on maintaining the gardens and grounds and finding new ways to improve services. They love meeting people from around the world and invite visitors to Hawaii to come and stay at the bed and breakfast.
