Culture

The owner of Hickory Falls Guest House, Rhonda Hillabush, wants every guest to feel at home while visiting Hickory Falls. She and her son, who helps to run the property, make it a goal to show their guests genuine southern hospitality. Guests should feel like they are visiting family and leave feeling like they've made a friend. They are known for their quality service. A recent guest wrote on booking.com, "The staff was so personal and provided the extra touches that made me feel at home, even a throw blanket to use while sitting outside watching the falls, and there were binoculars, and a sleep machine, it was so sweet. I felt cared for."

The surrounding area is also known for its small population and southern hospitality. Chimney Rock Village is very small original to when it was built in the early 1800s. With a population just shy of 200 residents, this small town is very intimate with a sizable amount of historical value. The locals appreciate visitors, and they offer many tours through the town and guided river rafting. There are many rock climbing competitions hosted in the Chimney Rock area. The nearby Lake Lure Beach and waterpark make for a family friendly attraction to visit during the humid summer months.

History

Hickory Falls Guest House was purchased and named by Rhonda Hillabush in 2017. Rhonda and her son bought the property and changed the name. They then renovated everything, gave the hotel an entirely new sewage system, and redecorated the property in an effort to restore the traditional southern charm. They entered the industry with high hopes, looking for a business that could sustain them and bring others to the Chimney Rock Village. They really enjoyed interacting with people and wanted those visiting Chimney Rock or Lake Lure to have a comfortable refuge. The job is taxing at times, being an innkeeper is a twenty-four-seven job, but they enjoy watching guests enjoy themselves and making new friendships.
