The property sits on less than an acre of land on the main street of East Jordan. Because of the nearness to downtown, the inn is within walking distance of several restaurants and stores. Nick suggests that those staying at the inn visit three restaurants in East Jordan that are within walking distance of the inn; Foundry Bar and Grill, Terry's of Charlevoix, and Red Mesa Grill. There are various attractions that the visitors to the Jordan Inn can visit, including Boyne Mountain, which Nick remarks has "well-known skiing." Located on the premises is a front yard with a "beer garden" that the patrons often utilize to play yard games such as corn hole, explains Nick. Also found outside the establishment is a firepit, patio, and hot tub available for the occupants. With the proximity to Lake Charlevoix, guests can enjoy a view of the lake from Room 1, which includes a private balcony on the second floor.
When asked how they want their guests to feel while staying at the Jordan Inn, Nick, a manager of the property, remarks that the inn wants the patrons to feel as if it were a "home away from home." The staff of the Jordan Inn strives to create this atmosphere by frequently interacting with the people staying at the inn and tending to their needs and desires. The inn has hosted several retirement and wedding parties and is willing to "accommodate the guests' needs," explains Nick. There is a 24-hour staff that the manager mentions is "ready and willing to help at any moment" so that they feel "part of the family." Nick says that many people who stay at the inn mention the cleanliness and friendliness of the establishment. He continues to report that some have described the inn as unique for the view of Lake Charlevoix and the proximity to downtown East Jordan.
One guest enjoyed their stay and mentioned in a review, "After we arrived, the hostess and her helper suggested places nearby to see and where to find a good supper. The Inn was warm, quiet, and inviting. The place combines Victorian architecture, furniture, and decorations with modern bathrooms and remodeling.
For breakfast, the hostess served us fresh apple slices mixed with pumpkin-pie-spiced yogurt, generous servings of broccoli, ham, and cheese quiche with orange juice, coffee, and hot water."
The inn is open year-round, with the busiest season being in the summer. Nick mentions that the summer is the busiest season because of the traffic of tourists that Lake Charlevoix brings. The lake offers opportunities for visitors to participate in fishing, boating, swimming, and more. The Jordan Inn frequently receives repeat guests with a mixed demographic of visitors, from families to couples. The inn also has a few policies that they ask people to follow. No pets are allowed in the inn unless the pets are service animals and paperwork is provided. Smoking is not permitted inside the building itself. Nick remarks that the inn is "family-friendly.".
The Jordan Inn was originally built 140 years ago as an old farmhouse. Logging was widespread in this period and brought immigrants to the area, remarks the current manager of the inn. The Jordan Inn was one of the first houses in East Jordan and is now one of the oldest homes still standing there. It was converted to a bed and breakfast shortly after it was built as a farm home by the Porter Family. The mother of the Porter family had the dream and aspiration to own her bed and breakfast. Since then it has been family owned and run for about 25 years. For the current owners, their favorite part about running the bed and breakfast is meeting new people and seeing them enjoy the establishment.
Since the Jordan Inn was built 140 years ago, several significant renovations have occurred. Nick, one of the managers, mentions that in their time owning the property, the owners have made a number of changes to restore many of the original design aspects of the inn. These changes included upgrades to the structure, paint, and other elements of the inn.
