About

Lakeside Country Inn is a three-story European-style house in Savona, British Columbia. The bed and breakfast has nine guest units, four on the top floor and five on the bottom; however, the owner says she typically opens seven at a time to "space them out." She wants to have space between different accommodations to reduce the chances of occupants disturbing each other throughout their stay. However, she has observed that many people seem to be drawn to each other as they socialize during breakfast or in the yard. The owner remarks that she and her husband try to let more reserved occupants keep to themselves but are happy to interact with those that would like to.

Each room at the Lakeside Country Inn has a bar fridge, kitchenette, microwave, private bathroom, private entrance, Wi-Fi, and TV. Four rooms are the Lakeview Rooms with Balcony type, two on the ground level and two on top. These accommodations are said to be the most rented rooms on the property. They are uniquely decorated from each other and offer views of the nearby Kamloops Lake from their private balconies. These units also include coffee makers, private entrances, and a single queen- or two twin-sized beds. The Deluxe Lakeview Room with Two Queen Beds and Balcony is another top-floor unit with a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and a private balcony. The last top-floor room is the One-Bedroom Kitchenette with Balcony, which has a queen bed in a separate room from the kitchen, living space, and private balcony.

The Two Bedroom Kitchenette with Patio is said by the owners to be best for families because of the privacy between bedrooms. It comes with a loveseat and an opening into a backyard patio. The Cozy Kitchen with Double Bed and Patio also opens onto a garden patio with a table and chairs. Finally, the Veranda Room has a queen bed, an outside veranda, and white furniture.

Lakeside Country Inn is in a residential area of Kamloops Lake. The inn has a backyard for guests to spend time in, and it stretches onto the southern shores of the lake. The owner says the climate is typically "sunny [and] arid," so her visitors tend to spend a significant amount of time outside on the lounges while reading a book or watching the lake. The establishment is approximately 0.82 acres and includes several gardens. Since Lakeside Country Inn is on the shore of Kamloops Lake, a dock has been implemented into the property.

An optional continental breakfast is available for Lakeside Country Inn guests. The owner says they can choose between an 8:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. sitting. Typical breakfast items include coffee, juice, granola, fruit, yogurt, toast, bagels with cream cheese, scones, and muffins. The owner states that accommodations for dietary restrictions can be made if warned in advance. She also mentions that they do not serve eggs.

Some of the local attractions in Savona include golfing at a few different courses, including Tobiano Golf Course and Mt. Paul Golf Course. Kamloops Lake is another common point of interest; visitors can walk along the shoreline, swim, or fish for rainbow trout, Kamloops trout, and other fish. Many hiking areas are also within driving distance; Deadman Valley and Savona Balancing Rock are among those options. Guests can go birdwatching or on historical excursions to learn more about Savona and the surrounding location. Furthermore, the owner's dining recommendations are Browns Socialhouse and Earls Kitchen + Bar.

Culture

The owner of Lakeside Country Inn wishes for her visitors to "feel like they are special." She explains that she and her husband feel a personal obligation to represent Canada and the hospitality industry well. She continues, saying it is important to them that all occupants feel comfortable at Lakeside Country Inn regardless of their background. The owner wants people to "leave with a good feeling of visiting Canada." She says she and her husband leave handwritten welcome notes or chocolate bars for newcomers and send them pre-arrival emails to help them feel welcome. The emails typically include information about local attractions and restaurants.

In addition to their hospitality efforts, the owners feel Lakeside Country Inn is most unique for its proximity to Kamloops Lake. "This is a place to relax and rejuvenate," says one of the owners, and she affirms that they do what they can to maintain a "peaceful" environment. Visitor reviews seem to reflect the innkeepers' efforts; one review says, "Savona is a great stopover in summer, and the Lakeside Country Inn was a wonderful place to stay with direct lake access from their private beach and jetty. The owners personally looked after us." Another visitor wrote, "This is a favorite spot for us every year! Perfect getaway, beautiful surroundings, and welcoming hosts. The gardens are gorgeous, and the rooms are charming and immaculate."

Lakeside Country Inn requires any children visiting to be older than 12. Additionally, pets and smoking are not allowed at the inn. Visitors are asked to be respectful and considerate of each other. As such, quiet time begins each night at 10:00 p.m. Finally, check-in is between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Lakeside Country Inn operates during the summer. The owner explains that a mixed demographic of people visits throughout the season, though most guests consist of "young romantic couples," retirees, and Europeans. She also says many people visit repeatedly.

History

The family that currently owns Lakeside Country Inn has had the house since 1966. They opened the property for business after many renovations in 1985 and implemented the breakfast in 1966. Previously, Lakeside Country Inn was utilized as a fishing lodge before a renovation in the 1960s that converted it into a motel. Since its most recent renovation, the owners have added the house's top floor and gardens. They have also redecorated many of the rooms and "reinvented" the house, as it previously had a 1960s style. One of the owners explains that the building didn't fit their personal styles, so they changed the inn into a more European-style building to fit their personal preference.

One of the owners says she enjoys meeting her visitors the most. "They inspire us to this day," she says, reiterating her personal obligation to represent the hospitality industry and Canada. She also loves what she does because she loves gardens, bedding, and linens, and running a bed and breakfast allows her to work with all those things.
