Located in the western portion of Washington state, the Misty Valley Inn offers five guestrooms for visitors to reserve. Every morning, guests receive a complimentary breakfast, which may include waffles, omelets, crepes, oatmeal, or toast, among other items. One of the innkeepers mentions that the property has received several positive reviews from former patrons who commented on "the breakfast" and the "cleanliness" of the establishment. The owners believe that one of the most unique aspects of the Misty Valley Inn is its seclusion from urban areas and its location "in the midst of the trees and forests." Many of the nearby attractions offer a range of outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking and fishing. Rialto Beach and Hoh Rainforest are two specific sites that are "very popular" among tourists, according to the owners of Misty Valley Inn.
The Misty Valley Inn occupies nearly three acres of land in Washington state's western region. The business accommodates guests in a tri-level home, with a total of five guestrooms available for reservations. All of the guestrooms can be found on the inn's main level—in addition to the dining room and living room—while the downstairs area is where the owners currently reside, which is off-limits to patrons. One of the owners describes the establishment's interior as "elegant and modern," as she explains that the previous innkeepers decorated the home to have more of an "antique" style. Artwork from local artists is displayed on the walls of the bed and breakfast, showcasing various places that can be found in close proximity to Misty Valley Inn, such as Hoh Rainforest and Rialto Beach.
Guests should be aware that the Dutch Suite can be reserved as an individual unit or as a two-bedroom unit with the adjoining Lighthouse Suite. A particular characteristic of the Dutch Suite that is unique from the other four units is that it includes a sliding glass door that leads to a private patio area with a table and chairs. Every guestroom is equipped with an ensuite bathroom that contains a walk-in shower and standard bathroom amenities, such as shampoo, soap, and conditioner. Robes that have the property's logo can be utilized over the course of guests' stay, and they are also available for purchase. Moreover, the rooms have an electric fireplace that the owner mentions can be used "for ambiance or to make the room warmer."
The living room on the main floor of the inn serves as a common area where people can lounge. A TV and a reclining sectional couch are provided in this room for guest use. The dining room is also open for visitors, as it offers coffee and tea, a fridge, a microwave, a dessert buffet, and a coffee machine. Breakfast is typically distributed to patrons in the dining room; however, the owner notes that during the summer, some people prefer to enjoy their food on the inn's back deck area, where a view of the encompassing landscape can be seen. A small walking trail leads from the front of the property, with several trees surrounding it on either side. The back of the property's grounds contains a garden area that was reportedly created by the previous innkeepers, according to one of the current owners. She further explains that about 27 different types of roses are growing in the garden.
One week prior to patrons' arrival, the owners send a link via text that allows people to order what they would like to eat for breakfast during their stay at the Misty Valley Inn. They are also given the option to choose from a few designated times when the meal is to be served, which are different depending on the season. In the summer, the earliest available hours for breakfast are 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, and 9:00 a.m., while the appointed times during the winter are 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, and 9:30 a.m. The breakfast menu can be viewed on the Misty Valley Inn website, and it should also be noted that vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free dishes are available to people with dietary restrictions. Breakfast is cooked by either the owners or their staff members. One of the owners remarks that the two most popular breakfast items are the Logger Pancakes and the Moroccan Omelets.
The Misty Valley Inn is situated on a ledge that overlooks the Sol Duc Valley. The location of the bed and breakfast is relatively secluded from urban areas. Many of the nearby attractions that visitors tend to take interest in are fairly nature-oriented. Some of the sites that the owners of the inn recommend their guests visit are the Hoh Rainforest, Lake Crescent, Rialto Beach, Sol Duc Hot Springs and Sol Duc Falls, Klaloch, and Ruby Beach. Opportunities for fishing and hiking can be found in the surrounding area as well. The cities of Port Angeles and Forks also feature a few restaurants that may pique the interest of visitors.
The owners of Misty Valley Inn observe that many patrons have commented on the quality of "the breakfast" as well as "the views" that can be seen from the property. Other visitors have noted the owners' "attention to detail," regarding the amenities. One guest who was seemingly content with the provided service from the owners and staff said in a review, "The staff was very welcoming and gave great guidance on the local sites and activities. The additional amenities were very much appreciated." During breakfast, the innkeepers and staff interact with their guests the most, and they mention that they enjoy informing guests about nearby trails that they could hike or places that they could visit. One of the owners expresses that "some people have been traveling all day and don't feel like talking when they arrive," so the owners and staff try to be aware of that to allow visitors to relax. Intending to create an atmosphere where guests can feel as though the Misty Valley Inn is a "home away from home," the owners make an effort to add amenities to each of the rooms that a typical inn may not provide; for example, earplugs are available for guests who have sensitive ears.
A few policies are implemented at the bed and breakfast that visitors are expected to conform to. Children under the age of 14 years old are not allowed to stay at Misty Valley Inn due to it being an establishment that caters more to couples. Pets are also prohibited from accompanying guests during their stay, which includes service animals. Smoking is not permitted inside the inn, however, a designated section for smoking is located on the premises outside with a provided ashtray and bench. Furthermore, visitors are expected to keep noise to a minimum from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. out of respect to those who are staying in the other suites.
Open year-round, the Misty Valley Inn's busiest season of operation tends to occur between mid-May and mid-October when climatic conditions are reasonably moderate. One of the owners of the Misty Valley Inn says that the average temperature rests around 70 degrees Fahrenheit throughout these months, and there is a lower probability of rainfall. The innkeepers observe that repeat guests have visited the Misty Valley Inn several times, some of which have been returning to the establishment since the previous innkeepers owned it.
The former owners of Misty Valley Inn first started the bed and breakfast business in 1987; however, the establishment itself dates back to 1974 when it was constructed. The inn originally served as the residence for the original owners, who lived in the downstairs area where the current owners now reside. The family was originally teachers, and they raised their family in the general location where Misty Valley Inn is established. During the summer season when school was not in session, the couple would rent out their rooms to people who needed a place to stay, and they would make their guests breakfast each morning. This ultimately led to the original owners to convert the home into a full-time bed and breakfast.
The present owners of Misty Valley Inn first discovered the property when they undertook the Pacific Coast Highway road trip. They had just left Lake Crescent when they decided to explore their retirement options and see what the area had to offer. After coming upon the inn, they spoke with the manager about purchasing the property and stayed the night. The following day, they met with the realtor, and two months later, in October 2020, they took ownership of the inn and relocated to Forks, Washington.
According to the owners, their favorite part of managing the Misty Valley Inn is "meeting the people [who come] from various parts of the world." They have received visitors from Australia, France, China, and other distant countries. "We've made lots of friends this way," one of the innkeepers says.
