Moon River Bed and Breakfast

Moon River Bed and Breakfast

Located in Maysville, Kentucky, Moon River Bed and Breakfast has a total of five rooms that are available year-round for visitors to occupy. The building itself adjoins the other historically significant houses that comprise Cox Row along Market Street. Everyone who stays at Moon River Bed and Breakfast is provided a continental breakfast each morning, and on the weekends, a cooked meal is prepared for patrons. Denny Dellinger, the current owner of the property, has the goal of providing guests with an experience that allows them to feel as though Moon River Bed and Breakfast is "a home away from home." As such, Denny makes an effort to suggest nearby restaurants and attractions to those who take an interest in what Maysville has to offer.

About

Moon River Bed and Breakfast is located in the Maysville Kentucky Historic District. The three-story Victorian house consists of five rooms that are available for guests to reserve. Each room is uniquely decorated and named, with themes ranging from the Civil War to local celebrities. The rooms are furnished with beds, TVs, and small refrigerators. Access to WiFi is also provided for patrons' convenience. Common areas at Moon River include a living room, dining room, and kitchen on the first floor as well as a front porch and a rear garden. The garden features outdoor furniture, gas grills, a bird bath, a horseshoe pit, and even a kiddie swimming pool. Guests can enjoy the ambiance and relax in the planted areas. Visitors should also be aware that parking is available at the back of the building.

Every morning, breakfast is served to patrons at Moon River Bed and Breakfast, which varies depending on the day. On weekdays, a continental breakfast is served, featuring coffee, juice, pastries, cereal, toast, yogurt, and berries. On Saturdays and Sundays, guests are treated to "a cooked breakfast," as mentioned by Denny Dellinger, the owner of the inn. One particularly notable option on the breakfast menu is the breakfast casserole with either berries or sausage. Denny tries to be attentive to everyone's needs and can accommodate dietary restrictions if requested in advance. Breakfast is typically served in the dining room around 8:30 a.m.

The property offers views of the encompassing area, with rooms in the front providing a sight of a historic church across the street, while the Civil War Room and the garden suite display views of the backyard garden. Moon River is situated among several nearby cultural events, shops, and dining options. It is "part of the Maysville Kentucky Historic District," which was recognized as "the USA Today favorite small town of 2023," according to the owner of Moon River Bed and Breakfast. The surrounding area offers a blend of historical significance, architecture, and activities. One specific site that Denny recommends people visit is the Kentucky Heritage Museum. He also notes that The Old Pogue Distillery, which is "one of the oldest distilleries," is available for guests to tour. In addition to exploring the town's heritage and enjoying the events and attractions, a number of dining options can be found in the vicinity. One of Denny's recommendations is Capronis Restaurant & Bar, however, he is partial to Chandler's Bar for its varied menu. Another notable option is the Rush Pub at the end of Market Street.

Culture

Denny Dellinger, the owner of Moon River Bed and Breakfast, believes that the Victorian-era architecture and decor of the establishment contribute to the overall ambiance. He further explains that he and the staff try to make hospitality a top priority at the bed and breakfast, with the intent to help guests feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout their stay. "We want them to feel like they're staying at a home away from home," he explains. Denny tries to foster a personal and attentive approach, striving to take the time to engage with people and provide personalized recommendations for exploring Maysville and its attractions. One patron who previously stayed at the bed and breakfast commented on their experience in a review, saying, "The owner, Denny Dellinger, and his assistant were so very kind to us. The breakfast was delicious, with plenty of healthy options. The room was very spacious, comfortable, and just beautiful, with a wonderful view of the historic church across the street. We could tell every detail was well thought out."

While Moon River currently does not host events or activities on-site, the owner has plans to introduce additional offerings in the future, which may include brunches, private dinners, and the rental of the facility for small events. These endeavors aim to enhance the guest experience and create opportunities for further enjoyment during their stay.

Moon River Bed and Breakfast welcomes people of all ages, and pets are permitted to stay at the property. It should be noted that patrons should inform the inn in advance about their intention to bring pets, as certain restrictions or guidelines may apply. While there are no designated quiet hours, Moon River aims to maintain a peaceful environment for all guests. The inn expects visitors to be considerate of others and keep noise at a respectful volume throughout their stay. The establishment operates year-round, with the fall season being particularly popular due to the fairly moderate weather conditions. Typically, numerous events are hosted during the summer season, which also tends to draw a relatively high quantity of visitors. Couples over the age of 40 constitute the majority of the demographic of those who stay at the bed and breakfast.

History

Originally built in 1884 as part of the Cox Row houses, Moon River Bed and Breakfast holds historical significance within the area. These row houses were built in the architectural style, which was popular during the Victorian era. Although it may be claimed to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, it is not currently listed, as reported by Denny Dellinger—the owner of the establishment. The inn was acquired by Denny in September 2022. He purchased the property from the previous owners, Marti and Mike Insko, who had resided there for about 20 years. The Inskos were school teachers who started the bed and breakfast business, although it was not their full-time business. Dellinger saw the potential in the property and recognized the opportunity to enhance its performance through improved marketing and promotion.

In addition to acquiring Moon River, Dellinger also purchased an adjoining building. He plans to renovate the additional building and create more accommodations, further expanding the offerings of the bed and breakfast. The renovation work is currently underway, and the additional units are expected to be available by mid-summer.
