Motel Torrey is located in the small town of Torrey on the edge of town. Built in the 90's it has a relatively "modern" feel and is among the newer building in the town. It has a mix of brick and stucco walls on the outside. There are eleven rooms, all of which have recently been renovated and the flooring has been changed, along with bedding and some new furniture on the inside. Nine of the accommodations have two standard queen-sized beds, while the remaining two have one king-sized bed each. The rooms with a queen-sized bed have a table with two chairs, while the units with kings sized beds receive a couch with a sitting area. All eleven accommodations come with an air conditioner and heater. There is also a mini-fridge, ice bucket, and an electric kettle. Each room is equipped with a TV and cable and has access to the internet. The private bathrooms each unit provides come with the standard amenities of shampoo, soaps, and towels.

The units can be found from the two wings of the lobby. Access to all guest accommodations is available from the parking area, and there is no need to enter the lobby. Near the lobby area, there is a communal microwave and ice machine. There are two chairs on the front porch of every accommodation and rags that guests may use to clean their vehicle and shoes outside.

Motel Torrey has a public kiosk where general information on the area can be found, more details of nearby activities, and contacts for recreational guides in the region. Capitol Reef National Park is a popular attraction in the area. At the kiosk, guides for jeeping tours and bike trails can be found, as well as information about stargazing. The owner Stewart encourages those who want nighttime activities to enjoy the stars and potential stargazing sites from the porches at the motel and surrounding areas.

Culture

Motel Torrey is owned and operated by a man named Stewart and his wife. They enjoy working in the lodging business and are fond of getting to know their guests, talking to them, and sharing their knowledge of southern Utah. A traditional breakfast is not served at Motel Torrey, but they do provide coffee and tea. Stewart and his staff strive to help guests feel comfortable and in a clean environment. One guest said this about their experience. "If you’re going to be staying near Capitol Reef National Park, you’ll want to stay in Torrey. It’s a small town with an outsized selection of good food. Motel Torrey is a great little roadside motel that really surprised us. It’s refreshingly clean with very friendly and helpful staff (especially after hours)."

In the past, Motel Torrey has generally been a faster-paced "one-night stay" kind of culture. Stewart plans to change that and wants the atmosphere to be one that says, " come and stay." He hopes patrons of the motel feel at home during their stay. Stewart has been a guide in the past and strives to help people get the most out of their trips by offering tips and help with local guides he knows in the area.

Stewart and his wife plan to make changes to the property in the future, wanting to make a common area for guests to rest and socialize, and possibly a small picnic area as well for small outdoor activities. They are in the habit of making improvements and changes that will help guests enjoy the area and all the motel offers. Several guests have commented on the amenities and the cleanliness of the motel. In the past, one such person commented: "The owner, Stewart, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The room uses a key combination which means I don't have to carry a key around, which is great. The room was refurbished last year and looks great, is clean, and everything works. There are more than enough electrical outlets for all my gadgets. There's a liquid soap and shampoo dispenser so they don't have wasteful little plastic bottles. There's a kettle in the room to make tea, and a mini-fridge also."

History

The motel was built in the 90's under the name of Boulder View Inn. The property was initially owned by a farmer in the home next door who thought it could be a successful business. The owner Stewart who is originally from Salt Lake, Utah, and his wife, from Boulder, Utah, bought the property in 2015. They wanted to try something new and be a part of the hospitality industry. They have been running the property ever since and just finished their sixth year of operation. Since purchasing the property, Stewart and his wife have left their mark and made some improvements to the building, fixing the floors and furniture and remodeling the rooms to help customers enjoy their stay.
