History

Mountainaire Inn & Log Cabins opened in 2006 and is owned by Jim and Deborah McDowell. While visiting their daughter—who was going to school at Appalachian State University—Jim and Deborah stayed in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. They quickly fell in love with the area, particularly the mountains and surrounding nature. Jim wanted to be in Blowing Rock to enjoy the fly-fishing, and Deborah enjoyed the cooler weather that Blowing Rock offers. They both also love the spring and fall seasons that the Blowing Rock area provides each year.

After they began to look for a place or a small cottage, someone told them about a property for sale. Jim and Deborah decided to give it a try and purchased the property, establishing it as the inn—originally built in 1954. Eight years later, Jim and Deborah expanded the Mountainaire Inn to include the log cabins it now has today.
