Naeset-Roe Inn

Scott and Kim have owned Naeset-Roe Inn since 2014. The establishment is open from February to December, closing only during the month of January. Currently, the property offers three units, each of which features a queen size bed and an ensuite bathroom. Every morning, breakfast is served to those who are staying at the inn. The following breakfast items are potential options that one can expect to be served: Homemade scones or muffins, an egg dish, french toast, or a type of breakfast meat such as sausage. Outside the confines of the inn, the downtown area of Stoughton is comprised of several artisan galleries, antique stores, and restaurants. Visitors can also engage in outdoor recreation at nearby attractions, including Lake Kegonsa State Park or Cam-Rock Park.

About

Located in southern Wisconsin, Naeset-Roe Inn features a total of three units for which patrons can make reservations. The inn itself is two stories high, and Scott, one of the owners, describes its overall character as "an all-brick Italian home." Each guestroom contains a queen-size bed, an ensuite bathroom, and either a shower tub combo or a claw foot tub with a shower. The Clock Tower Room is larger in comparison to the other two units, and Scott mentions that this particular guestroom is fairly popular among visitors. Common areas, which include the dining room and the parlor, constitute a considerable portion of the inn's first floor. Inside these common areas, one may find a sitting area, as well as games for guest use.

Breakfast is served each morning in the dining room to everyone staying at Naeset-Roe Inn. On weekdays, breakfast is typically distributed around 8:00 AM, while on weekends, the meal is served at about 8:30 AM. A few of the available dishes, which are cooked by Scott, include an egg dish, french toast, and sausage. According to Scott, one of Naeset-Roe Inn's most unique aspects is the homemade buttermilk syrup that many of the breakfast items feature. Occasionally, Scott provides guests with a continental breakfast. It should be noted that food preferences and allergies such as gluten, vegan, vegetarian, and paleo, among others, can be accommodated at the inn.

Scott comments that his wife, Kim, the other owner of the property, is a "prolific gardener." The grounds of Naeset-Roe Inn are characterized by various types of gardens, including flower gardens, a statue garden, a fairy garden, and a vegetable garden. The inn is also home to some of the owner's chickens.

The property is situated near the downtown Stoughton area, where one may find a movie theater, a quilt shop, artisan galleries, and nearly three antique stores. Scott recommends that patrons visit the Stoughton Opera House and the Norwegian heritage museum, both of which are within walking distance. Beyond this, the area also offers a few outdoor recreational activities. Visitors can rent a canoe to paddle on the Yahara River, located in close proximity to the inn. People can also engage in cross-country skiing and hiking at Lake Kegonsa State Park or Cam-Rock Park, as long as the weather permits. Other activities include fishing, swimming, snowmobiling, and biking on nearby trails. As reported on Naeset-Roe Inn's website, seven golf courses are within a 20-minute drive of the establishment. With regard to nearby places to eat, Scott frequently directs patrons to Big Sky, The Viking Brew Pub, and Wendigo.

Culture

Scott and Kim, the two owners of Naeset-Roe Inn, have the goal to "make everyone feel welcome." In an effort to achieve this goal, Scott notes that they try to "talk with people and listen to their stories." They strive to interact with their visitors and express that they are interested in getting to know people. One individual who previously stayed at Naeset-Roe Inn made remarks about their stay, saying, "Scott and Kim are so friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious— I was craving the pancakes on the trip back home. The house is beautifully decorated. It's also super dog-friendly— Kim even watched the guest dogs while we all ate breakfast."

A few policies are implemented at the inn, and the owners expect visitors to act accordingly to such guidelines throughout the duration of their stay. Concerning pets, Naeset-Roe Inn is a pet-friendly lodging facility, and Scott and Kim also have a few pets of their own residing on the property. The owners allow one dog at a time among patrons. Furthermore, smoking is prohibited both inside and outside of the inn. Quiet hours are not heavily enforced, though Scott explains that if people are loud past 10:00 PM, then they may ask guests to keep noise to a minimum. All things considered, Scott and Kim primarily "expect visitors to be nice to fellow guests." In terms of events, Naeset-Roe Inn generally does not host events of its own; however, Scott says that they can host smaller events that are "guest driven." Some people have hosted small wedding parties and other similar celebrations at the inn in the past.

The inn is open for the majority of the year, closing solely during the month of January. Scott says that the best season of operation for the business tends to occur in the fall, due to the football games and events being hosted at various venues in the general area. The Stoughton Opera House also frequently organizes events during this time, which guests can attend. Oftentimes, Naeset-Roe Inn receives repeat guests. Most people who visit the inn are "middle-aged," according to Scott. Much of the demographics for those who stay at the inn are between the ages of 40 and 60.

History

Naeset-Roe Inn has been under the ownership of Scott and Kim since 2014, and they opened the establishment to the public in August of the same year. The property was first established circa 2000, and Scott and Kim are the third owners of the business. Originally, the property was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Kzamme, as mentioned by Scott. Before the current owners took over the business, the inn was managed by an individual known as Carl Povlick. As Kim and Scott are now the present innkeepers, Scott says that one of his favorite parts of owning Naeset-Roe Inn is "meeting and talking to people." He continues to explain that he enjoys "hearing their stories and sharing [his]."
