Old Lahaina House offers a total of four units that visitors can reserve throughout the year. Each unit is found in a single building, with one located on the first floor and the other three being found on the second story. Renée, the manager of the business, describes the building as "a giant pink house." She explains that the interior is decorated to portray "an old-school Hawaii feel." This style also applies to the guestrooms, as each is uniquely decorated with a particular theme. Renée mentions that "the Poolside Suite has an Asian Hawaiian feel, while the Malcolm Room is a more flowery feel."
The four units include the Pineapple Room, Malcolm Room, Riviera Room, and Poolside Suite. Among the currently available rooms, the manager reports that her personal favorite is the Riviera Room due to the balcony that overlooks the gardens and pool. All of the suites come with king-sized beds, with the exception of the Pineapple Room, which has two twin beds instead. Poolside Suite also has a sleeper sofa, allowing patrons to sleep up to four people per night. Every unit has a private bathroom, a mini-fridge, a microwave, a coffee maker, a television, kitchenware, and air conditioning.
Old Lahaina House's backyard has several gardens surrounding the swimming pool. A patio behind the swimming pool offers tables, lounge chairs, barbecue grills, and an outdoor kitchen area. Some beach accessories, such as snorkel gear, beach chairs, umbrellas, floaties, and more, are available for visitors to use free of charge.
Old Lahaina House is located about a minute away from the beach and ocean. It is also relatively close to a variety of attractions. According to Renée, "the house is in the heart of Lahaina." Lahaina Beach is within walking distance of the establishment and offers patrons the chance to participate in water activities like snorkeling, parasailing, and more. The manager mentions that Front Street is found nearby, which offers many places for guests to shop and hang out. There are also a variety of restaurants on Front Street and in other parts of the town. The manager enjoys recommending some of her favorite places to visitors, which include Lahaina Grill, Paia Fish Market, Down the Hatch Maui, and Betty's Beachside Café.
The goal of Old Lahaina House is to "feel like a home away from home." Renée, the general manager, mentions that she would like guests to be comfortable and relaxed while at the bed and breakfast. To accomplish the business' goal, she tries to be available for patrons if they have any questions or concerns. Renée mentions that they offer electric bikes for rent, as well as regular bicycles and beach supplies and equipment free of charge. The employees of Old Lahaina House interact with visitors frequently, though Renée explains that she and the other workers "try not to bother people who would rather have privacy."
Several policies are enforced at Old Lahaina House. Smoking is prohibited inside the building, however, guests can smoke in several designated areas if they would like to. The swimming pool is available 24/7 as long as patrons keep the noise to a minimum during the evening and night. The inn is unable to make accommodations for pets. Children of all ages are welcome to stay at the bed and breakfast. Another thing to note is that The establishment does not host events.
Many guests have stayed at Old Lahaina House, several of which have left reviews of their experiences. A few aspects of the business that are brought up more frequently are the location and the amenities offered. One person wrote, "Felt so homey and authentic, and it was also a really nice experience. They have a lovely pool with fun floaties, beach chairs, toys, and towels and are just across the street from the beach. We were within walking distance from fun restaurants, bars, and food trucks." The establishment is open year-round, with the busiest season of operation being from the middle of December to the end of April. The typical demographic of visitors tend to be between the ages of 20 and 60 years old, many of which are couples.
According to Renée, the establishment's general manager, Old Lahaina House was "the first bed and breakfast on Maui." It has been around for about 30 years, opening its door to the public in 1992. The current owner's parents were the first owners of the company, and they worked with other family members to run the bed and breakfast. They also ran other inns and bed and breakfast's in the area, although Renée mentions that the first business they opened was a parasailing company. Sometime after they opened the parasailing corporation, they decided to create the bed and breakfast.
The original owner started the company because her brother came to Lahaina on his honeymoon. He told her about what it was like, and they both decided to start the parasailing company, then later opened Old Lahaina House. Years later, the original owner passed the business down to her daughter, who currently runs the establishment. Many updates have been made in the past, including continual renovations on the rooms and installing amenities like new air conditioning units and televisions. Renée notes that, during these renovations, the owners did their best to maintain the property's historical aspects. The building is old, having been built before the bed and breakfast was established. It was a residential house used as a private home before becoming an inn.
