Pine Grove Cottages

Lincolnville, Maine, is home to the Pine Grove Cottages. The business has been there since the 1930s and has been run by different owners throughout its operation. The current owners are Ryan and Rebekah, who moved from Colorado with their one daughter to pursue their dream of running a cottage business. The property holds nine units, each with full kitchens and other basic amenities. There are a few common areas on the grounds, which include multiple fire pits, a swing, and a barbeque area. The owners are pet-friendly, allowing visitors to bring pets in any of the cottages. During the new ownership, the site has seen a few renovations to update the property as well as the buildings. The location of the cottages can provide easy access to tourist locations such as two national parks as well as multiple beaches.

About

Pine Grove Cottages is a family-owned business located in Lincolnville, Maine sitting on three acres of land. The business has been owned by Bryan and Rebekah since February of 2021 but has been around as a place of lodging since the 1930s. The property offers nine individual cottages to choose from when staying there. Each cottage is individually styled, with no specific theme throughout the different units. The cottages are either a studio layout or only have two bedrooms. The units also have an attached porch with a sitting area, with space between each cottage which can provide additional privacy that comes from having separate buildings. Each unit is tucked back up into the trees.

The outside of the property has multiple firepits and seating areas for guests to use at their convenience. Located on the property is access to barbeque stations that patrons can use when desired or needed. The owners request that while patrons stay at Pine Grove that they be respectful and are mindful of the quiet time set from 11:00 PM- 9:00 AM. Smoking is prohibited within the cottages but is permitted on the property. Policies against pets are not found here, allowing animals to join owners on trips to Pine Grove Cottages. Multiple locations within the town are also pet-friendly. Such locations include Acadia National Park, Fort Foster Park, Willard Beach, Quarry Run Dog Park, Wells Beach, Little Long Pond Leash-Free Area, and Downeast Windjammer Cruise Lines and Bar Harbor Ferry. Dining locations that are specifically recommended by the owners are Mclaughlin Lobster Shack, Young Lobster Pound, Whales Tooth Pub, and Delvino's Grill and Pasta Home.

Each cottage includes basic amenities for incoming guests. Such amenities provided by owners include Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen, private decks, TV streaming services, fresh linens and towels, air conditioning, and heating systems. Pine Grove Cottages does not serve breakfast to their guests, but the full kitchens are meant to provide for the needs of guests. The new owners have also updated all the cottages with new beds and bedding. Guests have said these beds have "given the best nights of sleep." According to Ryan and Rebekah, Cottage 7 is the most popular unit due to the increase in space compared to the other cottages. Each unit has the same style outside with either brown or tan paneling with wooden decks attached. Out of the nine cottages found on the property, five have a two-person occupancy, and four have a four-person occupancy. Five units are studio cabins, two units are two bedrooms, and the other two are only one bedroom.

One of the unique aspects of Pine Grove Cottages is its central location, providing relatively easy access to many attractions in the surrounding areas. The town is surrounded by activities available for anybody who wants to participate. Multiple festivals are held in the surrounding towns, including The North Atlantic, The Main Lobster, and The Main Antiques festivals. Other options of places to visit and activities to participate in the surrounding area are the beaches, lighthouse tours, riding a windjammer, and visiting museums. The Acadia National Park is a 90-minute drive from the cottages, and Camden Hills State Park is a 9-minute drive away. Both parks offer multiple hikes for visitors to choose from. Other outdoor activities include lobstering, scootering, and boating.

The seasons of operation for Pine Grove Cottages are from May to Mid-October. The busiest season of the year for the business is typically between the months of July and August, where maximum compacity is usually reached. The other months are busy as well and can sometimes reach maximum compacity as well.

Culture

Bryan and Rebekah, the owners of the establishment, have developed the focus of having Pine Grove Cottages as a place where patrons can come back from a long day of touring and rest. They strive to do this through the amenities provided and by having no extra activities on the property. The owners have also taken the initiative to improve the quality of their property by working on all the complaints the previous owner's guests left. One of the biggest fixes made by the new owners was the replacement of all the beds in the cottages. The changes made by Bryan and Rebekah stems from what they describe as their want for guests to feel at home when staying at Pine Grove Cottages. The majority of goals that the owners have set for themselves encompass the mottos of "Keep moving, and making the customer experience better."

Pine Grove Cottages has a wide diversity in the guests that visit, from young to old, or newlyweds, to a visit on your own. One patron has said, "Our cabin was quiet, clean, cozy, and had everything we could have needed or wanted. From an oversized lobster pot to our own grill and outdoor seating." Bryan and Rebekah have also reported that during their brief ownership have seen multiple guests come back within months for another stay at the cottages. Pine Groves location provides a place for patrons to stay close to nature while still being central to all of the attractions the surrounding cities hold.

History

During the 1930s, the cottages and cabins that now sit on Pine Grove Cottages property were constructed to serve as a place of lodging and have continued to currently serve in this capacity. In February 2021, the current owners, Bryan and Rebekah, moved from Littleton, Colorado, and bought the business to follow their "dream of owning a cottage business." Since the place of lodging has fallen into new ownership, the establishment has seen multiple changes. The biggest have been renovations, putting brand new beds in every room, and touching up the outside. There are no major future plans for Pine Grove Cottages, though minor continued improvements may be made as needed.

The towns surrounding the location of where the cottages lie are often thought of as tourist towns. This is a result of the multiple national parks, beaches, and hikes located nearby. The owners say that people come to look at the beautiful mid-coast and to experience the local cuisine, especially the seafood.
