Robin's Nest Bed & Breakfast

Robin's Nest Bed & Breakfast

Robin's Nest Bed and Breakfast, located in Cody, Wyoming, features four rooms that are available year-round for patrons. One of the rooms has a king bed, while the other rooms all have queen beds. Two of the rooms can accommodate three people, as one has a futon and another has a roll-away bed available. The establishment serves breakfast each morning, generally consisting of a fruit course, an egg course, a meat course, and a baked course served "family-style," according to Robin, the owner. Robin remarks that a popular dish is Bob's Upside-Down Stuffed French Toast, named after her husband, Bob. The bed and breakfast is situated near two entrances to Yellowstone National Park, where guests "have multiple ways into the park from Cody."

About

The Robin's Nest Bed and Breakfast is a two-story red brick home that was built in the early 1930s. Located two blocks from the historic downtown area of Cody, Wyoming, the property is within walking distance of eight restaurants, according to the owner. The home sits on less than an acre of land, with a back deck and gardens that guests can utilize.

Inside the home, there are four guest rooms available year-round, one on the first floor and the other three on the second floor. One of the rooms features a king-sized bed, while the other three have queen beds. Two of the queen bedrooms also have an additional twin bed available—a futon or a rollaway bed. During a stay at the bed and breakfast, patrons have access to free Wi-Fi. Although the building does not have air conditioning, Robin, the owner, reports that due to the location of the establishment in a high plains desert, the evenings in the summer are "very pleasant." Guests are invited to breakfast each morning of their stay.

Generally, at 8:00 in the morning, breakfast is served "family style" in the dining room, as mentioned by Robin. There are two tables in the dining room that each seat four to six guests, and a four-course meal is served. The meal begins with a fruit course, followed by an egg course, a meat course, and a baked course. Some dishes that are typically served include cinnamon rolls, pancakes, and breakfast casseroles. Robin reports that guests frequently comment on Bob's Upside-Down Stuffed French Toast, which was named after the owner's husband. She says that patrons also enjoy the cinnamon walnut pancakes with authentic maple syrup.

Culture

Robin's Nest Bed and Breakfast hopes that guests can "arrive as a stranger and leave as a friend," in Robin's words. She and her husband are able to frequently interact with patrons and are willing to help those visiting the area plan activities during their stay. Due to its location near two of the five entrances to Yellowstone National Park, Robin reports that many of her guests are staying with them while exploring the park and that the town of Cody has a variety of attractions that visitors enjoy. The rodeo that takes place in Cody runs each night from June through August, and many who come to the bed and breakfast visit the rodeo during their stay. The business has a variety of packages available, which include the price of a stay with admission to other activities in Cody. One of the packages, the Cody History Package, includes a three-night stay at the inn; two Buffalo Bill Center Passes, which grant admission to five museums; two Cody Trolley Tours; dinner and a show for two at the Cody Cattle Company; and an interpretive, all day Step On guided tour of Bighorn Basin or Yellowstone National Park. Robin reports that there are a variety of restaurants in the city of Cody. Some are; Cody Steakhouse, the Trailhead, Zapata's, the Proud Cut, and the Irma Hotel dining room.

During a stay at Robin's Nest Bed and Breakfast, there are policies in place to ensure that all guests can have a good experience. Pets are allowed at the property by prior arrangement; however, Robin recommends that patrons who do not want to bring their pets into Yellowstone can lodge their pets in one of the multiple pet daycares around Cody. Quiet time is from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., with the hopes of allowing a quiet night to those looking to get into the park early. There is no smoking allowed inside the home, but it can be done outside on the property. Lastly, children are allowed to stay at the bed and breakfast, and Robin says that if visitors are bringing children under the age of 10, they should notify her.

Those who have stayed previously at the bed and breakfast often comment on the cleanliness of the rooms, the quality of the breakfasts, and the proximity to Yellowstone National Park. One former patron said, "The home is filled with antiques and history, a cozy living room to watch movies, a game room, and a beautiful back patio where we enjoyed coffee and playing with their two adorable dogs. Stayed in the King Cedar room, it had a king bed with a solid cedar frame, at the foot a large wooden bench."

History

Robin and Bob began running the bed and breakfast in 2001. The house was originally built around 1930 and was, according to Robin, one of the earliest houses built in Cody, Wyoming. The house was built by the Trimmer family, who helped establish the city and were in the banking industry. Although the family was not the first to come to the area, Robin reports that the family moved to the area soon after the town was established and used the building as their retirement home. In the 1940s, the family sold the home, and it was used as a private residence until 1996.

The bed and breakfast was originally called the House of Burgess. Bernard Burgess and his family renovated the home, adding three additional bathrooms to the floor plan. He sold the property to Robin and Bob in 2001 and has since become an author, writing mystery novels. The Robin's Nest Bed and Breakfast has been featured in Bernard's books.

When the current owners purchased the property, they renamed the business Robin's Nest Bed and Breakfast due to the owner's name being Robin, as well as the couple seeing a variety of robins and other birds in the backyard when they bought the home. Since working at the property, Robin and Bob have worked on developing the backyard by adding a water fountain and a garden, as well as hosting outdoor concerts in the summertime.
