Seven Oaks Inn / Bed & Breakfast

The Seven Oaks Inn Bed and Breakfast is located in High Point North Carolina, near High Point University. The property has 3 rooms available year-round, with a wrap-around porch and various lawn games guests can enjoy. Located on the property is a pergola, as well as a firepit that guests can use when they choose. The property is just off the highway, far enough that no sounds can be heard from cars, but close enough to be within a 15-minute drive of High Point University. The property often has deer that visit and graze on the grounds, and guests can roam the 4.5-acre property in its entirety.

About

The Seven Oaks Inn Bed and Breakfast is located in High Point North Carolina. The property features a wraparound porch with a seating area for guests, as well as a pergola with a porch swing. On the porch are patio heaters so guests can enjoy the patio at all seasons of the year. The lawn is relatively well taken care of and is frequently updated by the staff to include more flower varieties with the changing seasons and more flower bed areas so guests can enjoy the various plants and flowers found in the area.

On the property, there are many lawn games and areas guests can enjoy. There are horseshoes, bocce ball, croquet, frisbees, and badminton. Guests have also used the grounds to golf, although there are no holes in the lawn. The property sits on 4.5 acres and has a firepit for guests to use with firewood provided. The property is far enough from the main road that highway noise generally cannot be heard, and due to the nature of the location, deer can be seen grazing on the property and enjoying the area as well. Guests have the ability to roam wherever they choose on the property, and circling the property four times equates to roughly a mile, if patrons choose to exercise outside.

Inside, there are three bedrooms with private bathrooms. Two of the rooms have a connecting bathroom, but the owners have their reservation system set up so that when one of the two rooms is booked, the other is automatically unavailable for the same time. If guests want to reserve both rooms together, they can call the property and the owner can help them set up the reservation. There are coffee makers and televisions in all the rooms that guests can use. The most popular unit is on the first floor of the building, called the Master Oaks Suite. The suite has a two-person walk-in shower as well as an 18 jet jacuzzi. Currently, renovations are underway for a small exercise room with a cross-trainer to be built for guest use.

Guests often comment on the quality of the breakfast at the Seven Oaks Inn. Local fruit, roasted potatoes, and treats are available at breakfast every morning. There are four different entrĂ©e types, with the most notable being the quiche and the Canadian bacon soufflĂ©. The owners consider breakfast being one of the highlights of staying at Seven Oaks, and they strive to be accommodating to guests with dietary needs. There is never any seafood prepared in the bed and breakfast, to make sure that those with seafood allergies can feel comfortable staying. The owners, Jenny and Ron, want to make sure that guests don't leave in the morning without a hot breakfast. As such, breakfast is served in the dining room every day between 8:30-9:30 a.m., but if guests need to leave earlier than that, arrangements can be made to ensure they still get to eat. There are also carry-out options available for breakfasts if the guests let staff know ahead of time.

Culture

The staff of the Seven Oaks Inn Bed and Breakfast strive to provide an atmosphere where guests can have a peaceful place to enjoy spending time with their families or spouses.  Additionally, the owners of the Seven Oaks Inn want their patrons to feel safe and comfortable. In order to help guests feel this way after each towel and bathrobe are cleaned, they are sealed in plastic to help guests know that they have not been contaminated. Management has selected the bedding used by patrons very intentionally in an effort to attain this goal as well. They work to help guests feel welcomed by providing guests with things to do on the property outside and inside.

At the Seven Oaks Inn, there are no pets allowed, to provide guests with allergies the opportunity to stay at the bed and breakfast as well. The property is a no-smoking facility. There are no handguns allowed on site either. As such, they encourage guests to not bring children under 12 years old to stay. The majority of guests who stay at the property are 55 and up, as well as young couples.

The inn is able to have weddings on-site, as well as family gatherings and other events. The events must be 50 people or less, but there are multiple areas on the property where wedding ceremonies can take place, and owners Jenny and Ron are happy to work with couples to make arrangements for weddings. There is a handicap-accessible pergola as well as relatively spacious property grounds for events to take place. The limit of 50 people for events is due in majority to the size of parking available.

Ron and Jenny strive to provide patrons of the inn with as little to as much interaction as desired during their stay. They understand that many guests come to the inn seeking privacy and peace, but are willing to interact with guests and let them know about local attractions nearby. Within an hour of the property are multiple universities guests can visit. Many people who stay at the inn come to tour the local universities as well. The nearest and most notable university to local residents is High Point University. At the inn, by the front desk is a kiosk with brochures on activities in the local area, as well as brochures on High Point. Located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, within three hours drive of the inn guests can enjoy mountains, and within four hours guests can enjoy the North Carolina beaches, coined by locals as the "golden cove." The city of High Point is also the sight of many professional conventions throughout the year, hosted by the university. The city also features many local handmade furniture stores for guests to shop at if they choose.

Guests have particularly mentioned the cleanliness of the inn, as well as the conditions of the rooms they stay in. One guest said "Location is away from Interstates but not too far, so no traffic noise. House is well appointed and well maintained. The bed was very comfortable; the bathroom was modern and up to date; plush towels and washcloths." Guests have also mentioned the breakfast as being a highlight of their stay. Another guest said, "The breakfasts were great, the rooms very comfortable and the host was very welcoming and helpful."

History

The Seven Oaks Inn Bed and Breakfast has been operational as a place for guests to stay since 2011. Jenny and Ron Barker are the original owners of the property, and raised their children in the house before converting it into the bed and breakfast it is known as today. In 2009, they decided it was time for a change and began to work on the process of turning the family home into a BnB.  The couple lives in a cottage next to the main house, and they give guests the phone number to the house in case the patrons need any help.

The lodging industry was brought about for the Barkers after their children moved out of the house. The building itself is roughly 3,200 square feet, and the couple decided they did not need that much space for just the two of them. They decided to renovate and turn it into a bed and breakfast to turn the family home into an asset for themselves and the community. The pair have enjoyed the industry, noting that one of their favorite parts is "meeting all the personalities that come to stay."
