About

On two acres of land, the Silver Heart Inn presents four differently themed rooms for its guests. In addition to those rooms, two separate cottages can be found on the property. Considered to be the most "luxurious" room by the innkeepers, the Margery Stone room accommodates two guests, with the name deriving from the heiress Margery Stone. The room has a king-sized bed located in it, decorated in various shades of blue and brown. Dual nightstands can be found near the bed, allowing guests to utilize those for clothing storage purposes. An en-suite bathroom in the Margery Stone Room comes equipped with a walk-in shower. A sitting area with tables and chairs provides a dining space for the guests. Linens and bath products are provided courtesy of the Silverheart Inn. A Smart TV in the room, along with a fireplace, encourages guests to stream various services, including Netflix, Hulu, and more.

Another room found in the inn is the Legend of Asia Room, a 350 square foot room with twelve-foot ceilings. A queen-sized bed decorated in black lacquer provides bedding for the guests, along with sheer drapes attached to the bed for privacy use. An open hearth marble fireplace is stationed on the opposite end of the bed, along with a table, chairs, and complimentary wine glasses. An air spa tub in the common area is available for the guests in not only the Legend of Asia Room but all additional rooms. The Napoleon Stone is named after the original owner of the home, Napoleon B. Stone, a prominent businessman in Independence's early history. Overlooking the garden courtyard at the back of the home, the Napoleon Stone Room is decorated with shades of brown and teal in order to coordinate with the entry hallway hand-painted wallpaper. Similar features and amenities can be found in the Napoleon Stone Room and the other two rooms, the difference being the location and décor of the rooms.

The final room, the Gamble Suite, is a two-bedroom suite that offers original architecture details from the home's beginnings in 1856. A queen-sized bed is situated in the larger room, with a full-size in the smaller and an elevator for wheelchair access can be found in the room as well. Two cottages on the property present other lodging options for guests. The Wren and Beach Cottages provide queen-sized beds and full kitchens as well as maid service every three days. The town of Independence offers several historical landmarks to visit, such as the Truman Library, the burial place of former President of the United States Harry S. Truman.

Culture

Melanie Johnson, a part-owner, stated that she intends to give guests an "extraordinary experience" and allow them to "stay home with history," referring to staying at the inn, which has a historical background, with the building having been built in 1856. Guests who have stayed at the property mention in their reviews of the Silver Heart Inn mention the quality of breakfast served, stating it is "an excellent breakfast." Another review refers to "Murder Mysteries" that are provided by the hosts, stating, "the owners host a Murder Mystery night for groups, which gave us a fun activity to do during our stay." History

The Silverheart Inn started as the home for businessman Napolian Stone, who built the home in 1856. During the Civil War, the home survived The Burning, resulting from the infamous Order Number 11. Order Number 11 originated from Union General Thomas Ewing, who exiled several thousand people from their homes in Western Missouri. In 1923, the home was then owned by Judge George Jennings. He split the home into two and moved over 300 feet to face Noland Road, which at the time was becoming the major thoroughfare. The house to the north was made from the rear wing of the home, and the house to the south was made from the front wing. The house to the south stood as the Jennings' residence, however, it fell into disrepair and was demolished in the 1960s. Roy and Avenell Gamble purchased the house to the north in 1943 and owned the home for 45 years. In 2012, Melanie and Perry Johnson purchased the property and configured it into a bed and breakfast, which officially opened on April 3, 2013.
