Silver Lake Resort

Silver Lake Resort is a multi-building property on the north shore of Silver Lake in Silver Lake, Washington. The property is comprised of motel rooms, RV sites, cabins, and tent sites. Guests are able to fish at their leisure or engage in boating activities. The resort rents out boats and fishing rods to those who are unable to bring their own. The Mt. St. Helens Visitors Center is within walking distance of the resort. Pets are allowed at the Silver Lake Resort, and a meeting room is available for reservations including large parties, meetings, and events.

About

There is an assortment of cabins, RV sites, tent sites, and motel rooms that collectively make up the property known as Silver Lake Resort. The premises are located on the fringes of Silver Lake, Washington, a small village tucked between Toutle and Castle Rock. A total of six motel rooms are available at Silver Lake Resort, housed in the main lodge. The lodge is two stories tall and is of a classic and rustic American design. Red-painted wood beams accent the building, and there is a small assortment of porches. One unique feature about the property as a whole is that guests are able to fish directly from the porches that are connected to the motel rooms. This is made possible because the main lodge sits on the water's edge.

The cabins, RV sites, and tent sites are more spread out across the roughly 1.5 acres of land that are part of Silver Lake Resort. Of the five cabins, two of them sleep two people, and three of them can accommodate up to four. All of the RV sites have water and electric hookups, and six of them have additional hookups for sewage. Tents can be set up in most of the RV sites, and there are seven non-RV sites that are specifically designed for tent camping. All RV and tent sites come equipped with fire pits and picnic tables. The cabins contain full kitchens, bathrooms, porches, and fire pits. Though the motel rooms do not have private fire pits, there is a peninsula on the lakeshore with a more oversized firepit that is available for public use.

One of the features that make the property unique is its rental system. Because one of the biggest draws to the resort is the ability to fish directly from some of the rooms, the establishment has provided means to rent or purchase fishing poles, tackle and bait, and boats. Apart from Silver Lake itself, one of the distinct geographic features near the resort is Mt. St. Helens, which is visible in the distance directly to the east of the property. A volcano that ended up erupting in the 1980s, Mt. St. Helens has since made the region famous. In fact, the Mt. St. Helens Visitor Center is only a few thousand feet away from Silver Lake Resort, making it a convenient attraction for those staying in the resort.

Culture

The high unit count and relatively small acreage mean that Silver Lake Resort isn't specifically designed for privacy; instead, the resort caters to a more family-oriented crowd. The idea is for people to "come fish with your families," according to the owner of the resort, George Jiao. Silver Lake Resort's primary demographic is families on some sort of vacation over the summer. The property has its most significant number of visitors between Memorial Day and Labor Day of each year, though the property is open year-round to accommodate an increased number of guests annually.

George notes that guests frequently mention the views that are present at the property, the cleanliness of the accommodations, the quality of the staff, and the property's location just off of Spirit Lake Highway. One guest said, "Great place to spend the day or maybe an overnight cabin rental or RV spot. They rent pontoon boats, great for family or a group of friends." Another review states, "The little store had nice essentials and we enjoyed sitting on the dock. It is close to highway." Silver Lake Resort is pet-friendly in the sense that guests are able to bring their animals to the property, as well as in the sense that there are many animal-friendly trails, walking paths, and open spaces nearby. It should be noted that additional fees and restrictions are set in place for those who bring their pets. The property also contains a meeting room on-site that has catered for events such as company outings, weddings, retreats, movie nights, and fishing tournaments. Reservations made in advance are required to use the meeting room for any interests.

History

The history of the Silver Lake Resort is relatively unclear. The property has been operating as a resort since the 1960s, though at the beginning of its existence, it was only a motel. Over the years, additional buildings and facilities have been implemented into the premises, allowing for increasingly larger numbers of guests to stay at the resort. The current owner of Silver Lake Resort is George Jiao, who has been managing the day-to-day affairs of the property for a few years. He bought it from a person he didn't know, and he ultimately does not have much information pertaining to the previous owners of Silver Lake Resort. The most notable historical event that occurred in the nearby area was the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980. When it erupted, the volcano caused a lot of destruction, and many people were killed. Though the volcano remains active, it has not caused destruction to the same scale as what occurred in 1980 since that time. The Mt. St. Helens Visitor Center is within walking distance of Silver Lake Resort.
