Ella, the property manager, says, "Guests love to revisit, and when they come back, they are so comfortable it's like they own the place. Often, guests will be found skimming the pool or wiping down the counter. Not because we don't take care of the place, but because they feel comfortable enough to do so." Sunrise Ocean Suites is one of only two businesses in Hillsboro. The town is very small, spanning two miles along the ocean. Beaches and other towns surround the property. They have their own mayor and police force in Hillsboro, with lots of local attractions, ocean lookouts, and restaurants.
Sunrise Ocean Suites was established in 1969. It was initially an old Howard Johnson's hotel. Frequent visitors bought a land lease then repurposed the rooms to be apartments. The original owner's children now own the property. The rooms are split between each of them, and they lease them out separately. Ella, the manager, started working at Sunrise Ocean Suites nine years ago. She has since redone the entire website and social media platforms. The property is continually being improved with added amenities and features.
