Deep in the forest in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains of Oklahoma, the Terrapin Peak Bed, Breakfast & Beyond is nestled against the mountains. Off the beaten path, the Terrapin Peak Bed & Breakfast can be an option for anyone looking for a quiet and private getaway. The bed & breakfast is secluded from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There are three buildings on the property each with two private bedrooms. This space helps to create an atmosphere for guests to relax. Two miles from Terrapin Peak Bed & Breakfast is the Tenkiller Ferry Lake, a popular spot for boating, fishing, and scuba diving.
Sitting on nine acres, the Bed & Breakfast at Terrapin Peak is far away from the usual traffic, creating a feeling of privacy. The Bed & Breakfast is surrounded by a forest and The Tenkiller Ferry Lake is a short drive away. Guests often comment about the views that can be seen from any of the five rooms on the property. There are three unique cabins guests can choose to stay in: the Cozy Turtle Cabin, the Scenic Turtle Cabin, and the Snappy Turtle Cabin.
The Snappy Turtle Cabin is known for being the honeymoon suite or for couples that are celebrating something special. With its king-sized bed and private covered porch swing, The Snappy Turtle Cabin can be a spot for couples. Each of the five rooms have their own covered porch, grill, mini-fridge, coffee maker, and boat/trailer parking. In addition to the cabins, there is the main lodge where guests can eat breakfast, have dinner parties, play a game of pool, or relax in the lounge.
There is also an in-house chef, who most know as, Chef "What's His Name?" who loves to cook healthy and personal meals for guests. When given a two-week notice, he will plan a menu, find local, fresh ingredients, and make a meal (including leftovers) for any guest that desires it. A continental breakfast is served every morning for everyone staying at the Terrapin Peak Bed & Breakfast, or if guests would like, for an added fee, Chef "What's His Name?" will make a breakfast catered to their needs. There are many things to do within a short driving distance, such as fishing, boating, snorkeling, and tubing at Lake Tenkiller. A nearby town called Tahlequah, Oaklahoma is the capital of the Native American Cherokee tribe and has lots of opportunities to learn about the Cherokee tribe.
It is called the Terrapin Peak Bed, Breakfast & Beyond because the owners, Genny and Chef "What's His Name?" want guests to know that they will go beyond for them. They hope that each guest feels special. Genny said, "sometimes to a guest beyond means we stop and play a game of pool with them. And sometimes it means we don't bother them while they stay in their room." Genny and Chef "What's His Name?" want the guests staying at the Terrapin Peak Bed, Breakfast, & Beyond to enjoy a relaxed and laid back atmosphere where they can enjoy quality rest and relaxation time.
One guest that stayed here said, " The owners were very kind, generous, and thoughtful...It's a great place to relax." In the area surrounding the Terrapin Bed, Breakfast & Beyond is a little community called Cookson, Oklahoma. There is no access to daily needs in the community of Cookson, so in order to get around, a car is required, but it is a quiet and picturesque little community. People generally go to Cookson to enjoy time on the lake away from the stress of everyday life. Though the summer months, Memorial Day through Labor Day, are the busiest time of year, the Terrapin Peak Bed, Breakfast & Beyond is open year-round.
Genny and Chef "What's His Name?" the original owners of Terrapin Peak Bed, Breakfast and Beyond, have been visiting the Tenkiller Ferry Lake for many, many years. They enjoyed the surrounding area and the escape from the flurry of everyday life. However, after years of visiting Tenkiller Ferry Lake and the surrounding area, they never felt like there was enough lodging in the area, so they decided to build a Bed & Breakfast on nine acres of forested land.
It was quite a lot of work to remove all the trees and level the ground enough for three houses and the main lodge to be built, but Genny and Chef "What's His Name?" felt it was worth it to stay in the area that they had grown to love. The Terrapin Bed, Breakfast & Beyond has been a Bed & Breakfast since it opened in 2009. Genny and Chef "What's His Name?" enjoy helping guests feel special. Genny likes to assist guests with any of their lodging needs, and Chef "What's His Name?" enjoys helping people with any dietary needs or wants.
