Dean Brown, the owner strives to create an enjoyable experience for their patron and accommodate to their needs.

About

Dean Brown owns the Bevin House Bed and Breakfast, which is situated near the city of East Hampton, in Connecticut. The home is comprised of three different floors, and each of the floors has other amenities available. The top two floors are where the guestrooms are located. There are five total guestrooms, with three of the units being located on the third floor and the other two located on the second floor. The five rooms have their individual names, which are Philo, Abner, Chauncey, Stanley, and William.

Each guestroom in the Bevin House Bed and Breakfast has a mini-fridge with complimentary drinks. Some rooms have a private bathroom, while others share a bathroom. Robes and custom-made soaps are included with any reservation. The units have a television, Amazon Echo Dot, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning that allows patrons to adjust the temperature to their liking.

Additional rooms are available to patrons in The Bevin House Bed and Breakfast, acting as common areas that visitors are able to utilize. The library is located on the first floor, with the room containing a couple of areas for sitting and lounging. The parlor is on the first floor, which has couches and individual chairs. One can view the outside from the parlor, as there are a number of windows inside the room.

Breakfast at the Bevin House is served every day at 8:30 in the morning, usually being located on the outside deck, weather permitting. If the weather is not relatively ideal for breakfast to be outside, the owner will serve it inside, in the first-floor dining room. The table outside can seat around ten people and the inside dining room can accommodate the same amount but has two different tables. The food that is served during breakfast varies from day to day. If a guest visits the official website of The Bevin House Bed and Breakfast, they may find pictures of some of the breakfasts that are served. Generally, a parfait is served daily, and entrees such as blueberry orange French toast casserole are served. Accommodations are made to patrons with food allergies, and the innkeeper asks that guests inform them when they check in of their dietary restrictions.

Visitors of the Bevin House Bed and Breakfast have the opportunity to utilize the outside of the business. Patrons can visit the barn near the house and pet the goats housed there. The names of the goats are Penny, Stormy, and Cupcake. The barn is used as a storage area for the home's equipment and to house the goats. Behind the barn is a relatively small stream. A guest may enjoy the swimming pool that is located near the house on the property. Additionally, the home offers a tree swing, hammock, and firepit.

Culture

During a patron's stay, The Bevin House Bed and Breakfast asks that they abide the policies that are enforced. They do not allow smoking inside of the property. Pets are prohibited due to the potential allergies of other visitors. Due to the age of the establishment and the antiques located within the home, they do not allow children under the age of nine. The establishment hopes that guests will be considerate of anyone else staying in the home, but they do not have an official quiet time. On-site parking is available. The owner allows weddings, birthdays, and parties to be hosted at the house.

Dean, the current owner, hopes occupants feel comfortable and relaxed during their stay at The Bevin House Bed and Breakfast. He strives to provide visitors with a "tasty breakfast and a clean and organized house." Dean's favorite part of being in the hospitality industry is interacting with patrons and getting to know them. He reports that he enjoys hearing their stories and sharing his home with them. Previous guests of The Bevin House Bed and Breakfast have said that the home is “a charming house with a Mansard roof, its location is near hiking and bicycling as well as breweries and wineries. It was enjoyable to be able to pet the goats at the barn. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfy, and the breakfast was fabulous. The owner was a delight to talk with as well.” Another patron said, "this is a beautiful house with a rich history but still convenient modern amenities. They had Alexa in every room, heated floors in the bathroom [of the Philo Room], and other various amenities. You can relax in the cozy bedrooms, or in one of the multiple sitting rooms, in the library, or around the warm fireplace. The swimming pool was great. The innkeeper was warm and welcoming, and breakfast was delicious.”

As part of their stay, a patron may journey outside the property of The Bevin House Bed and Breakfast to participate in the different activities in the surrounding area and in the city. Some activities include hiking, biking, and exploring the Old Town Center.

History

The home was built in the late 1800s by Philo Bevin and has had different owners throughout its life. One of those owners was Alice Bevin, an artist whose work can be seen in the third-story bathroom and in the old barn. Dean Brown is the current sole owner of the property. He bought the house in 2015 and then renovated the home for a year before making it a bed and breakfast. The Bevin House Bed and Breakfast has been a part of the hospitality industry for seven years. Since its construction, the home has never been a bed and breakfast and was only used as a private residence.

Since taking over the ownership of the house, Dean has been continuing to make updates to the home by fixing up the look of the interior and exterior. The owner has added air conditioning, heating, and new electrical systems throughout the house. In the future, Dean hopes to renovate the barn to use for events and activities. On the official website of the property, it says that “the entire house has been furnished with authentic and reproduction furniture letting you experience time in an 1872 mansion.”

Dean's discovery of the house is what led him to enter the hospitality industry. He enjoys the style and history of The Bevin House Bed and Breakfast and wants to share that passion with his guests.
