The Big Coconut Guesthouse is located near the center of the city of Fort Lauderdale in the state of Florida. The guesthouse is a gay men's hotel. They have two lodging areas, the main one being the big coconut, which has 17 rooms, and the smaller one being the little coconut, which is across the street from the big coconut that has 3 rooms. This establishment has been rated as the number 2 specialty lodging in the Fort Lauderdale area on trip advisor for over a year now. The property is located a mile and a half away from the beach and is close to many other things in the city that guests enjoy. The owner, David, says that his motto for his guests is to "relax, enjoy, and indulge."
The Big Coconut Guesthouse consists of two buildings and a small outdoor area. The main building is called The Big Coconut and has 17 rooms inside of it. The second building is located very close to the first, it being just across the street from it. This building is called The Small Coconut and has only three rooms. The Big Coconut is where guests will find the office of the property and where the courtyard is located. There is also a pool there on the property that all guests are free to use.
There are many different kinds of rooms that guests can stay in while at the guesthouse. Some of the rooms contain a king-sized bed, while others have two queen-sized beds. Most of the rooms have a microwave, a refrigerator, air conditioning and heating, HDTV, and something a little unique about the guesthouse, a wet bar. There is a penthouse available for guests to rent that has some additional features, including a kitchen they can use and a dishwasher, a living room, a private balcony that overlooks the pool, a separate bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a flat-screen HDTV in both rooms. Smoking is allowed on the balcony.
Beside the pool is a small garden patio with a table and a few chairs. Guests have spent time here getting to know others visiting the area and spending time with friends that they may have brought with them. There is a smoking area outside as well. The entirety of the outside is set into a tropical setting with big and small palm trees and an abundance of a variety of bushes surrounding the property. The rooms are also decorated in a lighter but similar fashion to that of a tropical area.
David, the owner of the property, has a motto that describes the culture that he strives to bring to his bed and breakfast. That motto is "relax, enjoy, and indulge." David hopes that those who come and stay at The Big Coconut can get some time away from their homes and stay in a more relaxing setting. He and his staff strive to help everyone enjoy their stay by providing some events and various amenities. One provided feature is the complimentary continental breakfast that is served every morning. Guests are served muffins and various fruits along with juice, tea, or coffee and can then choose to conversate with other guests at the bed and breakfast. An event that is put on daily at the guesthouse is the complimentary "Happy Hour." The Happy Hour is a poolside bar that the staff put on so that guests can spend more time with each other and have a few drinks in the house.
Guests have left a lot of comments about amenities that they have enjoyed, the owners and staff, and the cleanliness of the rooms. One guest wrote that "the guest house is ultra-clean. The common area brings people together in a comfortable and friendly setting. There's a light breakfast and a fun happy hour. But best of all, the manager Marty is a gem that takes care of your every need." Another guest left a comment that said that "he rooms were comfortable and clean. Dave and Marty are amazing hosts, and they made sure that we had everything we needed and made sure that we were comfortable. We spent our days in and around the pool, meeting all the other guests who were staying there. Everyone was very friendly, and it soon felt like a home away from home."
The city around The Big Coconut is a factor that brings many guests to the bed and breakfast. The property is only a mile and a half from the nearest beach, which many guests have taken advantage of in the past. The gay nightlife of Fort Lauderdale has also been recommended by many who stay there (including the staff) as something worth participating in.
David used to sell real estate before changing his career path. He has now been in the lodging industry for over 15 years now. He says the businesses aren't so much about the money to him as they are about networking. He thoroughly enjoys meeting new people and making new friends. He says that he likes to go all around the world without leaving his place, referring to the many people that visit his establishment from all around the world.
In the year 2016 and the month of August, David and his staff opened The Big Coconut for business. David bought the property from the original owners of a different motel, which was in operation for nearly 30 years before David bought it. David now puts all of his work into the business, enjoying his job more and more every day.
