The South Mountain Inn is located in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, and is surrounded by mountain ranges and trees. The property contains three regular rooms for guests to stay in and two suites. Each room is unique in its own way, making a variety of unique features available for each guest, though most have kitchenettes provided. The property is very old, ranging back to the 1800s, making it somewhat historical in the eyes of some who have visited.
The South Mountain Inn sits on seven acres of land, surrounded by trees and forested areas. Stretching for nearly a quarter of a mile, the inn's driveway is covered with sycamore trees, dating back to the 1800s, when the house was first built. Three rooms and two suites can be found in the three-storied house, each providing a range of accommodations for its guests. The Sycamore Room sits on the second floor of the house, providing large bay windows with views of the surrounding woods. Included in the stay at not only the Sycamore Room but the other various rooms and suites are breakfast, snacks, drink service, and access to the local gym. Within the Sycamore Room, an en-suite bathroom and shower are found, helping to provide comfort for the patrons staying at the inn. Air conditioning and complimentary WiFi are located in the area, with a queen-sized bed and cable TV. Toiletries include a hairdryer, bathrobes, shampoo and conditioner, and "Makes Sense Natural Spa Line." Makes Sense Natural Spa Line is a local spa line founded in the nearby city of Lancaster. The Mountain View room offers a view overlooking a mountain range and the town beneath the range. A bathroom and separate soaking tub are found in the en-suite bathroom, as well as bathrobes and other essential hygiene needs. Yoga mats are provided in the Mountain View room for guests to use to meditate, as well as a sitting area, allowing space for the guests that choose to use the service.
The Turret Suite showcases mountain range views through the original turret of the inn. A refrigerator and microwave are provided in the suite to go along with a microwave and coffee maker. Another suite in the inn is the Aerie Suite, providing a king-sized bed with the additional option of a second king bed or two twin beds in the living room as needed. A kitchenette is equipped with a fridge, microwave, and sink. The final room is the Carriage Room, which can include the Carriage Two Bedroom Suite option, which provides both the Carriage Room and an additional second bedroom. These rooms are adjoined in the hallway through a "Jack and Jill" bathroom. The area of Wernersville, PA, provides the Blue Marsh Lake, an artificial lake managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District.
The culture strived for at South Mountain Inn is a culture of comfortability and convenience. Being located near the Caron Treatment Center, the South Mountain Inn offers hospitality to family members of patients at the center as well as tourists and travelers. As stated by part-owner Matt Metzger, the inn provides "a place to relax and reconnect with your loved ones at the treatment center." The inn promotes its culture through the use of yoga mats in the rooms and suites, providing meditation methods for guests to utilize. Guests of the property mention the building's history, stating, "the property provides a historical building that is modernized on the inside, providing appeal to several generations in their stays." Matt Metzger, a part-owner, mentions that the inn strives to "provide history without the knick-knacks. We don't want to feel like a traditional bed and breakfast." Other guest reviews mention the service provided each morning with the continental breakfast, referring to it as a "lovely and tasteful" breakfast, with various egg dishes and full-platted meals being served. South Mountain Inn caters to guests' needs, offering gluten-free and keto items, as well as any other dietary restrictions a guest may have. Wernersville is a noted resort community that provides several outdoor activities to its tourists and residents, such as Blue Marsh Lake, an artificial lake managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District.
The South Mountain Inn was bought in 2018 by Matt and his wife, Kedri Metzger, who purchased the inn from Kyle and Jennifer Robinson. The Robinsons were the inn's creators, having purchased the home in 2007 and turning it into the Stable Bed and Breakfast. Before the Robinsons, the home stood as a resort piece, originally built in the late 1800s by Lucretia and Harry Anthony. The home was known as the "Anthony Mansion," and the other resort pieces were placed for travelers to come for a breath of fresh air. One of these resort pieces was purchased and turned into the Caron Treatment Center. The Anthony Mansion was purchased by George Pomery in 1903. It was residentially owned until 2007, when it was purchased and turned into a bed and breakfast by the Robinsons family. The current owners—the Metzgers—came from Baltimore, where they had worked for non-profits the last 18 years. They decided to purchase the property, and they have run it ever since.
