About

As a lodging enterprise, Tim's Ford Boats offers 15 cabins and 30 RV sites at the edge of Tim's Ford Lake. The cabins have recently been renovated to include more decorations and furnishings. Each one contains amenities such as refrigerators, microwave ovens, central heating, air conditioning, 32-inch flat-screen televisions (with satellite TV), stoves, washcloths, silverware, dishes, and other necessary cooking supplies. Each unit is structured with a simple kitchen area with a table and four chairs, which melds into the living space. Bedrooms and bathrooms are more separated. Some of the structures contain only one bedroom, while others have two. The cabins are nestled on Cabin Road, which runs almost directly along the lake's edge. Though there is a slight separation between the cabins and the main building of the marina, it would take a guest less than five minutes to travel the distance. The RV sites come with 30/50 AMP connections, water hookups, sewage hookups, and access to a bathhouse, pavilion, and a washer/dryer facility.

According to Tim's Ford Boats' website, the RV sites are all currently on a year-long lease. Visitors can call the property for more information regarding RV reservations. Primarily, however, Tim's Ford Boats is most known for its marina. The property has three covered docks and a smaller, open-aired dock. The maximum boat capacity is 350. The marina serves as a waypoint for the many travelers who are exploring Tim's Ford Lake—whose shoreline spans over 265 miles, and whose acreage surpasses 10,000. To draw in visitors, Tim's Ford Boats has a small convenience store, as well as a restaurant called The Hard Dock Café. In the smaller store, guests can purchase small food items such as chips or other snacks. There are also medicinal items and merchandise like hats or T-shirts available for purchase.

The Hard Dock Café serves classic American dishes, including pizza, burgers, french fries, BBQ, hot dogs, and hot wings. A full menu can be found on the property's website. Guests can eat their meals on wooden tables (with covering) with direct, unobstructed views of the docks and lake. Finally, the marina is well-known for its pontoon boat rentals. This can be done via online reservations, permitting people to purchase access to these larger vessels in order to explore the lake. The pontoon boats are newer models from the year 2019 and can seat ten people comfortably. Their size and flat nature can allow for convenient party boats.

Culture

The culture surrounding Tim's Ford Boats is that of water recreation. Seekers of fishing opportunities, water-skiing, tubing, and cruising flock to the marina. The city of Winchester spreads across virtually the entirety of Tim's Ford Lake, giving the town a strong culture of fishing and other lake activities. In particular, Tim's Ford State Park provides visitors with an assortment of outdoor activities. The staff of the property strives to create a family-friendly environment. To accomplish this, they frequently keep more rambunctious guests away from the property, as well as serving only appropriate amounts of alcohol to prevent drunken visitors. However, that isn't to say that the property doesn't have its fair share of activities.

Often, Tim's Ford Boats hosts local bands in order to put together small concerts directly on their property. The idea—according to one of the managers—is to "get them dancing," in reference to the families at Tim's Ford. Guest reviews of the property (and of The Hard Dock Café, the property's restaurant) are typically well-natured and report service of good quality. One guest commented, " The cabins and surrounding area are simple and no-fuss. It’s always quiet and you get whatever you need if you ask. The rental pontoons are nice and cheap compared to others in the area. This year they went up even higher in my esteem when a random storm came only an hour into our all-day boat rental that ended in us soaked and cold and having to go back to the cabin to dry off. They refunded an appropriate amount of money for the time we were out without even being asked." Tim's Ford Boats is open year-round, and their busiest season is generally from the end of May to the middle of August.

History

Tim's Ford Boats has been in operation for 31 years. The current owners are Charlie and Joe Bondurant, whose father built the marina. Before that, the area was simply woodlands on the edge of the lake.
