What a Wonderful World was established in 1995 and was a goal for the owners for several years.
What a Wonderful World Bed and Breakfast is located on the island of Maui in the small town of Kihei. The property is located near the beach and has a 5000 square foot home. There are a total of 4 units on the property. The décor used in the different rooms is meant to give off the style of Hawaiian beach life. A balcony runs along most of the second floor. Along the outside of the property are various tropical plants and palm trees. A few tiki statues and other decorations are on display on the grounds. There are several seating areas at the back of the house. There is a small common area that has a grill and chairs that have been set up. Positioned near a collection of tropical foliage are a handful of chairs that guests are able to use for reading or other quiet activities. The same tropical vibe is present within the interior of the building. Each room is named after a tropical fruit, namely the Guava Room, Mango Room, Pineapple Room, and Papaya Room. In each room, guests have access to a DVD player with a selection of DVDs in the common area, Wifi and internet access, Towels, chairs, umbrellas, scuba gear, and other items guests might use at a beach are available on a first-come-first-serve basis to help guests have a wider range of activities during their stay.
The most popular attraction to the area is the beach. Given the fact that it is only a few minutes away, patrons often visit the beach during their stay. Guests will often visit other beaches such as Lava Pauruse Bay and make the property a base camp after a long day. A little bit down the road outside the community, there are hikes in the area. There is a golf course near the property, and several markets are often visited in town. At these markets guests can buy food, and touristy item. Food trucks of various cuisines can also be found throughout the town and are popular among locals.
Jim and his wife Eva, who own What a Wonderful World Bed and Breakfast, have the goal of providing guests with a relaxing environment. They also hope that property visitors will take the time to explore the different parts of Hawaii during their stay. The owners strive to give guests privacy when needed but also enjoy talking with guests and hearing their stories. Jim reports receiving guests from around the world and has enjoyed learning about other cultures from the patrons. He and Eva also provide guests with a breakfast basket every day. They say that food can be eaten in their room or on the upper deck area where visitors can look out over the town. Additionally, patrons can also eat breakfast in the backyard on the small patio. Breakfast baskets often consist of multiple fruits such as bananas, apples, oranges, grapes, and strawberries and include slices of bread and pastries. Breakfast includes a drink of milk, juice, or coffee that the guest desires. For those with dietary restrictions, accommodations can be made, but advanced notice must be given. Guest have often commented on the service provided and the location of the property, which the owners say the establishment is known for. One guest remarked, "The host is so nice, and the room is very clean and well decorated. We spent a great night here. The breakfast is ample, fresh, and yummy. Minutes from the beach for amazing sunsets, and the service and attention to detail were great. They make you feel at home."
What a Wonderful World Bed and Breakfast is open year-round. The busiest time of year for the region is typically during the month of spring break, and in between summer and early fall. Generally couples and more mature guests stay at the property--which has a mature atmosphere. It does, however, allow children and strives to be family-friendly. To help visitors relax and in the hopes of creating a better experience, What a Wonderful Bed and Breakfast has a few policies. There is no smoking inside the home or rooms. There is a neighborhood quiet time from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Jim and Eva have a dog on the property and only allow one room to accommodate pets. The owners should be contacted in advance with questions regarding rooms and pets before staying, and their number one rule at the establishment is "to enjoy yourself."
Jim and Eva, the owners of What a Wonderful World Bed and Breakfast, purchased the property in 1993. At the time, the home was on stilts and was a more traditional Hawaiian beach house. The owners had been looking to get into the industry and decided to make the home their new business. They began renovation and construction soon after for the next two years. Jim and Eva fixed up the home and remodeled it to be physically larger and more equipped with amenities than its previous state. They removed the stilts added an extra floor and additional rooms, along with new decorations for the home. Over the years, they have strived to keep up with modern standards and have made small renovations. A large renovation was made eight years ago and focused on the bathrooms and making the house feel more "natural." They even added bamboo furniture and stone decorations to the property. Jim and Eva are happy with what they have accomplished and enjoy working in the hospitality industry. A major goal they have continually strived for is better service and are looking for new ways to help guests feel more comfortable.
