Little Inn by the Bay is located in Newport Beach, California, which is a city that can be found just off the Pacific Ocean. The business is open throughout the year and offers a total of 18 units. Breakfast is not served at the inn, but each room has a mini-refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker for guests to make their own food. Some of the guestrooms come with features such as a whirlpool jacuzzi or an outdoor patio. Beach items, including umbrellas and towels, are provided by the property and are accessible to their patrons. The business is located within walking distance of the beach, several restaurants, and other attractions. The owner of the Little Inn by the Bay has run the business for over 20 years and continually makes renovations and updates to the establishment. Smoking and pets are prohibited from the property, though visitors can bring certified service animals.
Little Inn by the Bay has a total of 18 rooms available for guests to reserve. The amenities that are typically provided in these rooms include a vanity, air-conditioning, smart TV, clock, radio, alarm, ironing board with an iron, and hairdryer. Due to the fact that the business is unable to provide breakfast for the occupants, one can also find a coffee maker, microwave, and mini-refrigerator inside each room, allowing visitors to bring food and make their own meals if they would like. Several of the rooms have an oversized whirlpool jacuzzi, and a few have a patio. There are four rooms that can sleep up to four people, and the rest of the suites can sleep up to two or three, depending on the size of the unit. Beds range anywhere from twin, full, queen, and king-sized beds. The owner reports that the most popular rooms tend to be the ones that have access to a patio.
The establishment is found in the Balboa Peninsula. It is also within walking distance of the beach and the pier. Little Inn by the Bay offers beach equipment, such as towels and umbrellas, that can be used free of charge by those who want to take them to the beach. People who make their reservations through the business's website will get a complimentary, off-street parking space that can be used while they are staying at the inn. For those who don't book through their website, there is an extra $15 charge to acquire a parking space. Wi-Fi is available free of charge to all who stay at the property.
Little Inn by the Bay is within walking distance of the beach, which is about three to five minutes away. The business is also more centrally located in the city, allowing guests to walk to various restaurants and attractions in the city. Balboa Fun Zone is an amusement park found east of the property, allowing people to play carnival and arcade games. Another location that can be found in the city is Fashion Island, which is a larger mall about five minutes away by car. There are also many restaurants within the vicinity that the owner likes to recommend to patrons. One restaurant that the owner tells guests about is called The Original Mama D's Italian Kitchen. Mama D's is about a three-minute walk away and serves many Italian dishes. Also found close by is Woody's Wharf, which the owner mentions is one of the peninsula's oldest restaurants. Woody's Wharf serves American-themed food and cocktails and sometimes has live music playing in the evenings. Malarky's Irish Pub is another restaurant the owner recommends to visitors, serving burgers and alcoholic beverages.
The owner of the property, whose name is Gita, would like her guests to feel like they are at home. To help them feel at home, Gita and her employees encourage people to ask for help when planning what to do in the area during their stay. The employees try to greet visitors when they arrive and make an effort to have someone available at all times of the day.
There are several policies that the business has in place that they ask patrons to abide by while staying at Little Inn by the Bay. All rooms are to remain smoke-free, and a fee will be applied to those who are found smoking inside. Pets are prohibited from entering any of the units, though there is an exception for guests with service animals. Quiet time begins at 10:00 PM each night. Events are not often held at the establishment, and anyone who would like to organize an event during their stay is able to, but they must be aware that the business is limited in space, according to Gita. Events like weddings cannot be held, but family reunions, birthdays, and other smaller celebrations are allowed.
Little Inn by the Bay is open year-round, with the busiest time of year typically occurring in July and August. The owner believes this to be the case because many people who come to Newport Beach are looking to enjoy the warmer weather and the ocean. The business is also busy during many holiday weekends like Memorial Day weekend and Fourth of July weekend. There is also a boat parade that occurs near Christmas that the owner may recommend to guests who are staying during that time. Gita, the owner, mentions that the company is most likely known for its location and having Newport Beach within a close approximation. According to Gita, "There are no franchises on the peninsula, and there are only five properties, including Little Inn by the Bay, that offer reservations."
There have been many visitors who have come to the inn in the past. A few aspects of the property that are usually brought up in reviews include the establishment's location, how close it is to other places of interest, and the quality of care that the staff put into the business. One person who recently stayed at Little Inn by the Bay wrote, "We stayed in the Laguna suite with the in-room hot tub. It was small but clean. The hotel loans out beach toys. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are clean."
The current owner of Little Inn by the Bay, who is Gita, purchased the property with her husband in 1999. When he passed away, she took ownership and continued to run it with the staff of nine other employees. Gita entered the lodging industry because she and her husband wanted to have their own business. She explains that many members of her family are also in the hotel industry, including her father, who has worked at a hotel in Disney Land. Her brother and sister are currently helping run other places of lodging in nearby cities as well.
Gita mentions that she enjoys visiting with patrons and learning about where they are from and their cultures. According to the owner, "We have had guests come from different states as well as other countries." She explains that people have also been visiting for many years, even before she obtained the business. In her own words, "Some people come and tell us that they have been coming for over 40 years."
The owner is unsure how old the building is, but she estimates it is at least 80 years old. In order to keep Little Inn by the Bay in operation, there have been many renovations and projects over the years to keep the building up-to-date. Gita renovated the property when she purchased it and did another significant renovation in 2011. Some of the updates that have been made include changing the rooms' vanities, fixing the inn's floors, and buying new mattresses for the guestroom beds. In 2021, a completely new website was put together, and a few years ago, new floors replaced the old ones. Regarding her process for renovating the house, Gita remarks, "We update things one at a time." The next update the owner would like to address is the walls and doing something different with the wallpaper that covers them.
