Located in the small town of Comfort, Texas, the Meyer Bed and Breakfast on Cypress is a large inn and cottage rental property spread along two city blocks. Cypress Creek runs through the back of the property, and a forest of Cyprus trees border the creek and are grown throughout the property, casting shade over patios and grassy lawns. Swings hang from the trees at the creekside, and every rental has a view of the creek. Each of the houses, cottages and hotel buildings at the bed and breakfast are different with colorful doors, wood shutters, and antique outdoor furnishings. Located just one block from the town's historic downtown area, guests can park their cars in front of their rental and walk through town.
Across from the main property is a large field with deer feeders where visitors can spot deer in the morning and evening each day. Within the property, there is a swimming pool surrounded by a large grassy common area, well-established pathways to the creek, and personal patios or decks from each unit. All of the home and cottage rentals are separated. The inn and hotel-style buildings sit on the southeast and northwest corners of the property. The main entrance to the property has a wrap-around driveway leading to the main office and dining area. Clearly labeled streetways and a large map of the property show where each cottage or hotel room is located.
Sixteen total buildings sit on the two-acre property. There are a total of thirty-four rooms on the property. Three of them are single-room cottages on stilts with a screened-in porch. These cottages are entered by climbing a wood staircase. Each cottage has a sitting area, king-sized or double queen beds, a soaking tub and shower, minifridge, coffee maker, microwave, and ironing supplies. A variety of suites and lodge-style rooms fill the hotel and inn at the Meyer Bed and Breakfast. The suites are smaller with double or single queen-sized beds, a private bathroom, a coffee maker, and a minifridge. The lodge rooms are larger with a king-sized bed and a sofa bed. Each lodge room has a separate seating area and a screened-in balcony.
Two of the buildings at the bed and breakfast are three-room homes that can sleep anywhere from four to eight people. The houses have fully stocked kitchens, dining areas, two private bathrooms, and living areas. Every room at the bed and breakfast has a flat-screen television and free wireless internet. Above the dining area, there are two large suites with sweeping views of the open deer field and Cyprus Creek. Some of the cottages and houses have firepits and screened-in porches. The summer kitchen is a screened-in outdoor area where guests can play games and eat their breakfast. Guests are welcome to call or walk to the main office with any questions, to collect extra linens, or inquire about certain events in Comfort, and a staff member will be there to help them.
A continental breakfast in a box is served to each guest upon request every morning. Visitors can make their way to the dining area between 8:30 and 9:30 in the morning to collect their boxes. Each breakfast box contains a gourmet oatmeal maple sugar muffin, sausage and egg frittatas, yogurt and granola, and fresh-cut fruit. Freshly brewed, locally roasted coffee, orange juice, and milk are also provided. Accommodations can be made for those with dietary restrictions such as a gluten allergy or preference for vegetarian or vegan diets.

The neighborhood feel of the property can be comfortable and convenient to guests as they can park in front of their rentals and walk around the property or the downtown area of Comfort. Each room or rental is private, so guests don't have a typical hotel or motel feel but instead can walk outside to spacious lawns, covered patios, and Cyprus tree-lined streetways. Quiet time is mandatory every night after ten o'clock. This is an important policy put into place to ensure the bed and breakfast is quiet, and guests can wind down without disruptions.
Positive reviews are often left mentioning the property's privacy, the attention to detail in each room, the friendly staff, and the peaceful atmosphere. A recent guest at the bed and breakfast left this review, "Our room was large. There was an old-school fireplace and a Keurig with tea and coffee options. The Inn has multiple spots to build a fire which we sat by every night while enjoying the view of the country and deer. It's a convenient place to unplug and just relax. Coffee, wine distilleries, and restaurants are all in walking distance."

The town of Comfort, Texas, was established and settled by a German family in the 1800s. The founder of the town also founded the Meyer Bed and Breakfast in 1867. The Meyer family built their homestead on the bed and breakfast property that is now a home available to rent through the bed and breakfast. The Homestead Suite, Stage Stop, Ernestine Meyer Cottage, and Gast Haus buildings are all original structures from when the town was first settled. They functioned as a stagecoach stop, saloon, midwife clinic, and hotel for over thirty years. The original hotel building is now the dining room of the bed and breakfast.
The property owners purchased all of the homes, shops, and buildings along the road, converting them all into what is now the sixteen buildings and thirty-four rooms of the Meyer Bed and Breakfast. A new cabin built by woodshop students at the local high school is scheduled to be installed on the property in the summer of 2021. Kristen, the Meyer Bed and Breakfast general manager, enjoys working with her staff and meeting all of the people who pass through the bed and breakfast. After converting her own four-bedroom home into an Airbnb, she has worked many years in the lodging and hospitality industry. Kristen also rented out a charter boat for a few years before joining the staff at Meyer Bed and Breakfast.
