Restful Nest Bed and Breakfast

The Restful Nest Bed and Breakfast is located in Mariposa, California. The building sits on 10.7 acres of land that has a pool that can be utilized by patrons as well as three rooms that are available year-round for guests to stay in. Inside the bed and breakfast are some common areas where those staying at the property can gather, namely the dining area that is connected to the living room. Breakfast is served each morning in the dining area and generally features homemade sausage, baked brioche, and waffles. The owners enjoy getting to know the people that come to the property, saying that it is their favorite part of owning the business.

About

Located in Mariposa, California, the Restful Nest Bed and Breakfast has three rooms available for guests to stay in. Amenities in each room include a private bathroom, shampoo and conditioner, linens, and breakfast each morning. The rooms each have different décor that focuses on the history of the region. Mariposa is near the area that, in the 1850s, was home to the California gold rush. The rooms reflect a similar atmosphere with signs with sayings such as "Real Cowboys Wanted."

The property is 10.7 acres and has multiple areas that guests can visit on the grounds. Seasonally, a pond is available for catch and release fishing for patrons who bring equipment.  Additionally, the grounds of the establishment are home to a variety of plant life with relatively tall trees as well as shrubbery and grass. Those staying at the establishment are free to wander the grounds, and the owners say that the expanse of land available for guests to roam is one of the unique features of the bed and breakfast. There are chairs and tables outside that patrons can sit at and get to know each other.

Breakfast is provided each morning at the Restful Nest Bed and Breakfast at no additional charge to patrons. There are multiple courses each morning, and Lois says that she hopes no one goes away hungry. The owners describe the food as a "gourmet breakfast." The business makes accommodations for allergies and asks that when guests make their reservations that they indicate if there are any such restrictions or preferences. Breakfast is normally served at 8 AM, however, the main goal of the owners is that all the patrons on the property can eat together, so the time can be moved to best fit all those staying at the establishment.

While staying at the bed and breakfast, Lois and Jon Moroni, the owners, have policies in place that guests are expected to follow. Children are allowed on the property, however, they must be accompanied by an adult when going to the pool, walking the grounds, or sitting on the balcony. Additionally, quiet hours begin at 10 PM. The pool does not have a designated closing time each evening, but the owners ask that those using the pool later in the evening be respectful to other patrons. The establishment is a pet-friendly business. Lastly, smoking is allowed on the grounds of the property in certain areas, but is not permitted in any indoor facility.

Culture

Lois and Jon Moroni, the owners of Restful Nest Bed and Breakfast, strive to provide an atmosphere on the grounds of their property where guests can feel "at home." They make an effort to keep the ambiance this way by personally showing each visitor to their room upon arrival. Lois says this helps her get to know the guests and she also says that she loves "seeing the reaction they have to their room." Both Lois and Jon hope that the patrons that stay at the establishment can understand that they try to run a "family-oriented business" and they encourage families of all sizes to stay with them. The couple strives to interact with each visitor daily, at breakfast and as needed during the day. Both Lois and Jon want those that stay with them to feel welcomed and listened to during their stay.

According to Lois, the bed and breakfast is most known for the cleanliness of the building and rooms. Those who stay at the property also comment on the hospitality of the owners, and the amenities at the establishment. One guest said, "The grounds are peaceful with lots of wildlife visiting the grounds including deer, quail, wild turkeys, and birds. The hostess and host are amazing. The accommodations are very comfortable and spacious, and the food is great." Another patron commented on how at home she felt at the bed and breakfast, saying "it‘s like visiting your grandparents."

The Restful Nest Bed and Breakfast is open year-round. The busiest time of the year for the establishment is generally from May to August. Lois says that the business is "family-oriented" and that it has many families that stay on the grounds. She mentions that there is not a "typical demographic" however, stating that there is a wide range of ages of patrons including newlyweds, families with children, and older guests.

The main attraction in the area is Yosemite National Park. The park is approximately an hour away from the establishment and has multiple hikes and trails that tourists visit. The owners of the bed and breakfast also recommend various eateries to those who stay with them. Located 15 minutes from downtown Mariposa, the bed and breakfast is nearby multiple wineries, museums, and shopping centers.

History

Lois and Jon Moroni have owned the Restful Nest Bed and Breakfast for the past 25 years, purchasing the establishment in 1997. Since purchasing the business, the couple has strived to keep the overall feeling of the establishment but updated amenities as time has required. Lois reports that her favorite aspect of running the bed and breakfast is getting to know all the patrons who come to stay with them. She says that they have had guests from all over the world and that Jon often talks with out-of-the-country visitors about the history of the countries, due to his interest and study of history in the past.
