The Outpost

The Outpost is located in Fawnskin, California. It sits on a secluded, private plot of wooded land right on the lakeshore—giving it access to the lake. There are five guest accommodations on the property, each of which is a small studio cottage with full kitchens and bathrooms and a private entrance. Some features on the property's grounds include fire pits, barbecues, picnic tables, and horseshoes. For visitors wishing to bring a dog, a unique policy of the lodging property is that they are pet-friendly. Fawnskin is a popular place for fishing, biking, swimming, skiing, and other outdoor activities. There is also an abundance of options in the nearby area for those who wish to dine and shop.

About

The Outpost is located on one acre in a quiet and wooded area. Five cabins are located around the property and are around 55 to 75 feet away from each other. All the cabins are studios with fully equipped kitchens and can accommodate up to four people. The bathroom facility in each unit is a full bathroom with a tub and a shower. A unique thing about the accommodations is that they each have a wood-burning fireplace for guests to stay warm during the night. The rooms are decorated with mountain-themed décor and with log accents. Other amenities include DVD players, Direct TV, and Wi-Fi.

The inside of the cabins has plenty of amenities and things to enjoy, as well as the property's grounds. There are picnic tables, barbeques, bonfire pits, horseshoes, and boat access to the lake. With so many activities, The Outpost welcomes dogs to join in on the relaxing getaway. Guests need to register their dogs and be sure to accompany their dogs at all times. The property is unique because it is away from the city and provides seclusion and privacy to guests. The Outpost is open year-round and is typically busiest in the summer.

The Outpost is located near a lake, and many guests spend time canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Fawnskin is one of the best spots in the area for fishing. Guests can catch a wide variety of fish, including trout, bass, bluegill, carp, and bass. There is an abundance of hikes in the area as well, and many skiing opportunities in the winter. Though the property is located in a secluded area and is away from the hustle and bustle, guests are still close enough to local shops and restaurants.

The owners recommended a few local restaurants, including Captain's Anchorage Restaurant and Bar, The Pines Lakefront, and Azteca Grill Mexican Restaurant. Captain's Anchorage Restaurant and Bar offer guests steak, seafood, soup, salad, and dessert options. At The Pines Lakefront, guests can enjoy a wide variety of upscale dishes, including chicken with marsala wine and mushroom sauce, shrimp pasta, and Alaska halibut with pesto sauce. Azteca Grill Mexican Restaurant offers margaritas, a salsa bar, and other favorite Mexican dishes.

History

Grace and Craig Manners have been the owners of The Outpost since 1993. However, the property is much older and has been around for around 80 years. Grace and Craig entered the lodging industry because they wanted to be self-employed. They also wanted a good place and environment where their kids could grow up. Though purchasing and operating the property was a significant lifestyle change for the Manners family, they have continued to do it because they enjoy dealing with people and creating the relationships that can come from working in the lodging industry.
