The average temperature in the area has a low of around 26 degrees Fahrenheit and an average high of about 74 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmest month of the year is July, while the coldest is February. The region gets rain throughout the year, and the city of Detroit doesn't get any snow[7]. Activities to do near Lake St. Clair include paddling, fishing, and swimming. Other local attractions include splash pads, a bowling alley, boardwalks, playgrounds, festivals, shops, and restaurants.[3] In the city of Detroit, visitors can visit the Detroit Public Library, Pewabic Pottery, the Henry Ford Museum, the Detroit Temple, Fort Wayne, the Belle Isle Island, Greenfield Village, the Motown Museum, Comerica Park, the Renaissance Centre, the Detroit Insitute of Arts, the Morley Candy Factory, the Belle Isle Aquarium, Detroit Zoo, and the Automotive Hall of Fame.[4]
Lake St. Clair is a freshwater lake located in North America and is the feature of the nearby landscape that the Lake St. Clair Destination is named after. The lake has a total surface area of around 1,100 square kilometers and has a maximum width of 39 kilometers. The length of the lake is 42 kilometers, and it has an overall circular shape. For its size, the lake is shallow, with a maximum natural depth of 6.5 meters and an average depth of 3.4 meters.[1] On the lake, things like fishing, paddling, and swimming are available. Around the lake, there is an assortment of ventures for people to participate in, some of which are splash pads, playgrounds, a bowling alley, festivals, boardwalks, restaurants, and shops.[3]
One of the most notable cities in the destination is Detroit, which is known for its presence in automobile manufacturing. In particular, General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis North America are all located within the city. Additionally, Detroit is a culturally diverse location with various influences that contribute to the city's musical and artistic tendencies.[8] Some of the most prominent attractions in the metropolitan area of Detroit include Bell Isle Island, the Detroit Public Library, Fort Wayne, the Detroit Historical Museum, the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, and the Pewabic Pottery. Pewabic Pottery was first founded in 1903 by Mary CP Stratton and Horace Caulkins. It was run by the two of them until Stratton died in 1961. The museum continues to be a place where people can learn about the history of ceramics in Detroit. Other things to do in Detroit are the Detriot Zoo, the Belle Isle Aquarium, and the Automotive Hall of Fame.[4]
The Lake St. Clair Destination has an overall oval shape and is located in a part of Michigan and Ontario. The lake itself is located near the southern end of the district, a few miles away from the city of Detroit. The zone wraps around multiple cities, including Port Austin, Frankenmuth, Flint, Ann Arbor, Strathroy, and Lambton Shores. The south end of the region ends just above Put-In-Bay. Other cities within the area are Bad Axe, Imlay City, Troy, Livonia, Dearborn, Detroit, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia, and Fort Gratiot Twp. The surrounding landscape is flat with trees, forests, lakes, and rivers.
The weather in the city of Detroit fluctuates throughout the year, with an average high of around 74 degrees Fahrenheit in July and an average low of about 26 degrees Fahrenheit in February. The city gets rain throughout the year but receives little to no snow. The most frequent time of the year that rain falls in is June. The city of Detroit is also slightly humid, with the humidity being the highest in June.[7]
Animals and plants grow near Lake St. Clair and can sometimes be seen by tourists and locals. Some animals that are within the area include Eastern cottontails, squirrels, groundhogs, meadow voles, muskrats, white-tailed deer, big brown bats, common raccoons, American minks, striped skunks, and red foxes. There are also around 141 different species of birds that inhabit the area, such as woodpeckers, owls, and gulls. Plants that thrive close to the lake are cinnamon ferns, Christmas ferns, Eastern white pine, white sweetclovers, purple crownvetches, hair vetches, purple prairie clovers, common silverweed, swamp roses, black cherries, apples, and white mulberries.[6]
Lake St. Clair, which is located in the Lake St. Clair Destination, was first discovered by French explorers in 1679. When it was found on August 12th, the lake was also named. The lake was named Lac Sainte Claire after Sainte Claire of Assisi because his feast day fell at the time they discovered the lake. The party of 34 men had a ship named Griffon, which was the first sailing vessel on the Upper Lakes. The party sailed from the Niagara Falls area on August 7th, 1679. They entered the Detroit River on August 11th, reaching Lake St. Clair the following day. Since the lake has been found, map makers and Government officials changed the spelling of the lake to Lake Saint Clair. [2]
The destination's most prominent city, Detroit, was named after the nearby Detroit River when French explorers began building a colony in 1701. For most of its early history, the area's economy was sustained by fur trading. Elements of both the fur trading habits of the town and its French heritage are evidenced in the city's current flag. Other aspects of the city that have led to its historical significance include its involvement in the Underground Railroad, the emergence of Ford Motor Company, and its participation in the American Civil War.[8]
Duck Pond Bed and Breakfast Cottage
The Duckpond Bed and Breakfast, located in Leamington, Ontario, is a one-unit bed and breakfast cottage available from May through September. The cottage is a stand-alone building with one bedroom and one bathroom. The cottage is able to accommodate up to four people, as there is a king-sized bed in the bedroom and an additional queen-sized bed in the living room area. Each morning, breakfast is provided. Marjolein—one of the owners of the business—prepares the meal ahead of time and leaves it in the refrigerator for guests to heat up at their leisure. On the grounds is a duck pond, which is where the name of the bed and breakfast came from, and where patrons can see ducks and chicken.

Outside of the units, patrons can participate in various activities at the establishment. Activities involving water may generally be more common due to the property having direct access to Rhondeau Bay. Paul Renaud and Bridget Chippett are the current owners of Erie-O Motel & Marina and have been running the property since before 2020. Paul says they hope their visitors can "relax" during their stay. One of the owners also says that "there are enough things here to keep anybody entertained." People can additionally swim at Lake Erie or visit nearby restaurants.

Raymond House Inn is a bed and breakfast located in Port Sanilac, Michigan, a city found on the edge of Lake Huron. The business is open year-round and has seven units that guests can reserve. Breakfast is provided each morning, which comes free with a reservation at the inn. The building that is used for the bed and breakfast is a historical piece of architecture, as it was built in the late 1800s by a man named Uri Raymond, for whom the business is named. There are a variety of antiques and decorations from that time period that decorate the mansion. The establishment is capable of accommodating younger children but is not pet-friendly. The marina offers a variety of water-based activities like scuba diving, boating, fishing, and more.
